I'm entering options to a checkbox group. I type one in and hit the plus sign. The screen responds and my item is added to the list. But I then count 6 progress indicators that flash on the bottom of my browser at different speeds. Collectively it takes a while. My first little gripe is that it takes so long to add each item. The second item is my request. Could you give me some visual indication when the screen is REALLY ready for the next option to be added? As it is I have to sit there and wait for the progress indicator to stop popping up. sometimes it stops for a second or two and I think it is ready and then it popps up again.
I know, it's trivial. But if you have a 5 or more combo box groups to do and 10 or so options each, the time adds up.
Moving from question to question in the question editor is a similar, slow experience with all the progress bars again. I think your product is great, but sometimes painfully slow. |

Hi Whetsone,
Thanks for your comments. What module and version are you using? We've added some features in Dynamic Forms 3.4 where the adding of options in fields like a radio button, a dropdown or a checkbox list no longer requires a postback. Have you had a chance to upgrade yet?
We will continue searching for ways to improve performance on our modules. Thanks!

Thanks Candace. I'm using DF 3.40.01. I upgraded to that the day before yesterday. DNN version 5.04.01. I am pretty sure I'm seeing postbacks. There was no improvement to the process of adding checkbox group items for me after I upgraded. |

Hi... Well I know that we greatly improved the area where you update options (when you load an option it doesn't require a postback now, only when you move it up and down or update it). We are not really sure why it takes so long for some customers, could be related to the DNN version, possibly the hosting platform they are on, or possibly the number of fields on their form... Another possibly work around is to use SQL to pull options, this way you can manage the options under Host/Lists and then reference that query anytime you want to pull in that list of options. This has other advantages too such as the ability to reference the same list in multiple modules, multiple instances, etc... Your query would look something like this: Select Text as QuestionOption, Value as QuestionOptionValue from Lists Where ListName = 'YourListName' Order By SortOrder This way the interface is typically much faster to move items up/down/reference them under Host/Lists. -Chad |
