I have stated some issues with some of the layout abilities of Dynamic Forms in earlier posts, but I would like to sum them up in this post if possible.

    1. Ability to format colspan and rowspan. This would alleviate the current problems when adding controls to the line above.
    2. Ability to specify the main table width and stylize it (CSS).
    3. Ability to group a number of controls with CSS styling. This would be used for grouping like fields together (i.e. all address fields could be surrounded with a dark gray border and a light gray background)

If we had control to format the layout, Dynamic Forms would be perfect!

    Thanks,

    Jon,

Sorry for the late reply to this. Yes most of these requests sum up a number of requests from yourself and other users. The ones I can specifically acknowledge should for sure be in the next release are #1 and #2. #3 is something we are working on but not sure it will make the next release. I believe you or someone else actually try to do this using an HTML field type with a starting DIV tag and then another HTML template ending with a DIV tag. Can you tell me if you attempted this and maybe what thread that was with the results? I think maybe it didn't work out but either way I am not sure this is something that will be in the next release.

Most specifically the next release is going to introduce a feature called Client Events will be events that run on the client side to perform functions (i.e. check a box on the field and hide these other fields, or check a box and copy all fields from one textbox to another in examples such as same shipping as billing address etc..) other examples will be for 'Total Fields' and so forth. Besides that there are other enhancements on the way to support payment gateways (specifically Authorizenet initially). ummmmm.....

As far as #1 we were mostly coding for 'ColSpan' but ill check to see about rowspan as well, this is typically covered in the module in areas such as 'Display field label and field in the same column' etc...

My vote on this subject is to give as much control to the developer as possible. I have used a number of modules that template the forms using Tokens. This is an advanced layout option that overrides the .net tables. The existing method is good for beginners but advanced users could really use the design freedom of templates.

Forms in particular are a stumbling block in getting people to complete actions online. The layout and the design of a form can dramatically improve the effectiveness of a website. Thing is, the layout solutions differ greatly depending on market segment. This is why I need template control over all elements of a form so I can respond properly to what my user testing is showing.

I'm glad the discussion is open and I'm please Datsprings is receptive to our ideas. Keep up the good work.

    Chad,

Thanks for the response. To answer your question about:

"I believe you or someone else actually try to do this using an HTML field type with a starting DIV tag and then another HTML template ending with a DIV tag. Can you tell me if you attempted this and maybe what thread that was with the results?"

We did talk about this in a previous post, see link:

It didn't work out for me.

Looking forward to the next release!

    Thanks,

    Jon
