    Hello,

I have created a survey that has two checkbox groups on it. The first checkbox group has three checkboxes and each checkbox reveals a hidden textfield. The problem I'm having is that if a user selects an option and fills out the textbox then selects from the checkbox group after it the value gets saved in the textbox. So if the user decides to unselect the chosen option and select another one from the first checkbox group the value is still saved in the hidden textbox and gets sent in the email. Is there any way to clear or empty the value of the hidden non-selected textbox? I've tried a little JavaScript to no avail.

    Thanks,
    Jacob

Hi Jacob - The only real way I would know to do this might be with client side events/initial JavaScript...

I might not understand the form exactly though, why can't you just have three individual text box's that are not hidden? Or are you referring to the fact that the previous value is still in the previous textbox when its sent in an email or saved to the database?

So... you do have 3 separate text box's but the data/value from a hidden field is still being saved and used in completion events? Is the data actually being saved to the database or is it just being rendered within a completion event email? If its not being saved to the database (fields shouldn't if they are hidden) then maybe a work around might be to create three completion events as well to only display that token depending on what they select?

    Thanks,

    Chad

Sorry for the confusing description, let me try again. I have a checkbox group with three checkboxes in it,called Specialty, Site, and Provider. If the user selects Specialty it reveals the hidden texbox Specialty Name. The problem I'm having is the question after that one is causing like a postback and saves the text to Specialty Name. So if they user unselects Speciatly and selects Site and fills out the revealed textbox Site Name the email still sends Specialty Name with a value. I was curious if there was a way around this so it would only send Site Name.

Yes... Can you confirm if the data is actually saved (is it under view form results?) or is it only in the email completion event? I think that email events will pull everything from viewstate where as the view form results only has data saved for non-hidden fields.

Also, please confirm what version you are running on.

    Thanks!

I am using 5.5 and the values are displayed in debug mode and in the email completion event. I'm not sure how to access view form results (I'm very new to DNN still getting use to things). Even if view form results doesn't display the value is it possible for javascript to stop the value from being displayed?

Hi. Well from the module menu you would choose 'View Form Results'...

Outside of that that I am not directly sure unless we released a patch or update that it would be possible. I am not sure there is any JavaScript that could clear it out because the data is stored into View State. My only recommendation of what you could do would be to use some JavaScript to set the value of some other hidden fields and then use that data.

    So you have $(Textbox1), $(Textbox2), and $(Textbox3)

    but then you could have:
$(HiddenField_Textbox1), $(HiddenFieldTextbox2), and $(HiddenFieldTextbox3) -- these field would be actually the field type 'hidden' and not hide by role or hide until forced visible etc... Then, you could use JavaScript/client side events to clear those fields out,set those fields, and then only render those fields in your email events. That should work... If you need us to write any JavaScript for you then this can also be handled if you pick up hours at http://www.datasprings.com/Premium-Support.

    Thanks!
