    Hello DS Community!

    I have a long form with some hide/show question events like;

    1. Do you smoke? [yes] [no]
    2. Do you drink? [yes] [no]

If they click yes it will show a subquestion

    1. Do you smoke? [X] [no]
    1.a - more than a pack/day [yes] [no]

Works great, easy to set up (thanks datasprings)

The only little challenge I have is if they click yes to a question, then a subquestion shows...but then they go back and click 'no' I need the subquestion to hide again. This works fine too using the hide logic. HOWEVER...if they just come up to a question and click 'no' (no subquestion exposed yet) it does a post back which really slows the form process down. Is there a way I can avoid that postback?

    Hello Daniel,

Unfortunately our Dynamic Forms doesn't offer this feature to disable postback to a group of values if the value that the question event is listening for isn't selected. However this is possible to achieve by using JavaScript and a question event based on a hidden field, the Client Side Event section is under Advanced Field Options of a question field.

This would be a difficult script to write and you will probably need experience with JavaScript to pertain this goal.

But this would be the work flow to get this functionality you're seeking.

If you have any questions please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Thanks Ryan -

I can handle the javascript but I really do not understand where or what i need to go after. Do you have any examples of anything even REMOTELY similar?

    Hi Daniel,

Looking at your original post, how about if you just default the answer to NO so it will only postback and display hidden questions if the answer is YES? Will that work for you?

I really appreciate the quick response and good idea! BUT i can't do that unfortunately. Its a medical questionairre and they want them to explicitly check the 'no' box.

I am so close to a total out of the box datasprings solution! But this little postback is driving the clients crazy and I have so much other cool dataspring goodness tied to the form (emails, pdf, sql events, etc) that I am too invested in it

so ANY other ideas would really be appreciated.

I guess I really need some logic (Client, like you mention) that will not do a post back if
    1. Nothing on that question is currently selected.
    2. They are now selecting 'No'

I can probably hack my way thru the Javascript on that but now sure how to 'stop' the postback.

    Hello Daniel,

Can you please set up a similar example onto betasprings.com so I can jump in and have visual representation to what you're doing.
