I am binding to a table I created in my DNN database.  The SQL is something like this:

    SELECT This_ID, This_Name, This_Thing From This_Table WHERE This_ID = 22

I get 22 from $(DSParam1) in my Querystring.  I am only pulling This_ID so I can set it to a hidden field and use it from there on out so someone doesn't spoof the form on submit and change the 22 to a 25 and update another row.

If I set the This_ID field to a TextBox, it sets the variable.  If I set it to a Hidden Field, it doesnt set the variable until you edit your form and click submit to update the record.  Obviously it throws a SQL error because SQL can't convert varchar to int (it is passing in $(This_ID) and not 22).

    I hope that makes sense.

As a work around, I have the field as a TextBox and read only.

Why would it not set the field for a hidden field?  Any suggestions?

Hi. When you say "Hidden Field" do you mean the hidden field type, or are you actually hiding the field such as "Hide by role" or "Hide until forced visible"? You will need to actually need to set the field type to hidden itself and not actually hide by role etc...

By Hidden Field, I mean Hidden Field type. The hidden field type does not have a value set on page load.

How are you trying to set the field? Did you name it DSParam1 and then choose retrieve from querystring? If you choose that option I think this will solve your problem.

    Chad,

First, thanks for your responses, even on the weekend. This just goes to show how great Data Springs is!

After looking more closely at what is going on, I found that it is functioning properly, however, the view is not displaying correctly.

Here is what I mean. On rendering, you do not see what the hidden field is set to. It just shows This_ID - value: [blank - nothing here] ( you should see This_ID - value: 100). If you look at the source code, you see that you have the GUID with This_ID and the correct unique id that is used in the custom database. So there is a bug, but it is only it the Hidden Fields Control Panel.

So, I must apologize for saying that the hidden fields was not working. What we were looking at was the hidden field control panel. Our solution is different than most only because I want to use our unique identifier to ensure someone doesnt try to spoof an update in the query string.

Chad, again, you guys support is amazing. If I can only get a third of this support from other vendors!

    Thanks,

    Chris

    Hello Chris,

Yes this bug has been discovered last week and we hope to have this bug fixed, this was a newly added feature to Dynamic Forms and just needs a couple tweaks.

The approach you took, by looking into the Source of the page, is the best way to see the value contained in your hidden field.

Thank you for your comments and we appreciate your positive feedback.

If you have any questions please let us know, we will be working on a hot fix for this issue.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
