Using DNN 4.9.5 and DR 4.1.43.16605.

We have a textbox question to collect the users phone number. And want to validate it in the format of 999-999-9999 whenever the details are updated going forward.

As some of the existing data isn't in this format we cannot use the masking ability as that won't show any of the existing data.

In the validation section for the question we have checked the 'Required Field', entered text into the 'Required Text' and 'Required Field Error' boxes. We have also check the 'Use regular expression' check box, entered \(?\d{3}[-.]\)? ?\d{3}[-.]\d{4} (straight from the DR manual) in the 'regular expression' box as well as text into the validation text and error message boxes.

When we run the form the phone number question displays the required field error if nothing is entered but the regex validation isn't being done.

    Any ideas why?

    TIA
    Antony

    Hi Antony,

    I looked into this as I cannot get the validation expression to cause a hold up on submitting form  if the format of the data input is not formated to the requiremnts of \(?\d{3}[-.]\)? ?\d{3}[-.]\d{4}

I am checking with senior level support to see if there is a bug in the code.

    Thanks

    Hi Antony,

Sorry for the delay... Can you tell me if other regular expressions fire off? For example, can you check the email regular expression from this demo?

    http://www.datasprings.com/products...stration-1

I noticed that the regular expression worked there, and it should be implemented the exact same so I am not really sure what the problem might be. So, I am curious if any work?

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad
The regex for the email address is working in my install, just not the phone number one. BTW when I tried submitting the form in the example you gave it returned a DNN error.
I am not an RegEx expert but as far as I can see \(?\d{3}[-.]\)? ?\d{3}[-.]\d{4} should thow an error if the phone number is not in the US format, so it should throw an error.
Look forward to hear from you.
