I haver a SQL-driven drop-down list that calls a URN and a text value for each list item as follows:

select URN as QuestionOptionValue,CategoryName as QuestionOption   from Categories where (Suppressed  is null or Suppressed = 0)order by CategoryName

this should pull a list of 2 columns as below, and the test SQL display shows the text column only.

    1   ListItem1
    2   ListItem2
    3   Listitem3

The text items column is visible in the drop-down, and the hidden number is saved to the form response on submission - all good so far.
The problem is that I have set a user profile field to populate the list default (DotnetNuke User Default) but this is not populating when the form is opened.  The list always shows '-select one-'. even though the user source field is populated.

If I reverse the SQLfield mapping and get the URN as QuestionOption and the CategoryName as QuestionOptionValue, the list will prepopulate ok,   But this shows the numbers in the drop-down - not the text and the response field is not populated.

Any clues as to how I can get this to work?

    cheers

    Hi Rokhi,
Actually the result of one column in the result of the SQL driven drop-down is the normal way for it to function.
    Thanks

Using the 2 columns to populate the drop-down results in a number being returned to the table on a user selection. This is as I would expect and works in with the topology I'm employing in the software this form feeds - using a category URN in the user table linking to a lookup table with related category text values in it.

I would have thought - give that this works - that the reverse would be true, that given a number in the field used to drive this drop-down, the corresponding text would be called in the drop-down display when the form renders.

If this is not the case (by design) when could we reasonably expect this (?normal?) functionality to be incorporated in the forms module?

    Hi Rokhi,
What you will have in a general query is something like this for sql drop down:

SELECT field 1 as QuestionOption, field 2 as [QuestionOptionValue]

    From Table

If you choose the Table ID column as one of the fields then you will have the numbers in the result if field 2 is the Table ID column as it will be questionoptionvalue but field 1 or field 2 will be in the drop down but not both. Sorry, but this is the best way to explain what I think you are asking

Here is a sample query you can try. Play with it and see if it helps you with understanding drop dwon values. This sample is for Lists table in DNN. Here only one field is used called the Text field:

select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'Country' and Value != 'US'

    Thanks
