Hi Michael,
Sorry to hear about your frustrations... Trust me, we have explored many options (and will continue to explore those options) related to having more of a WYSIWYG type of an editor for form fields. If you use any of our other modules such as Dynamic User Directory, Dynamic Views, Dynamic Login, and so forth you will find that they already use a full WYSIWYG editor for all $(Tokens) etc... In the case of Dynamic Forms and Dynamic Registration though, this type of support is much more complicated because of the number of controls and possibilities/options with those controls. When we have researched this again recently (right before the 4.0 release) we did make some progress and was able to have a customized template for some field types, but mostly the easy ones only...
So... Someday we hope to have this type of functionality... I know other vendors offer this layout functionality better then Dynamic Forms.. but I also know they have their own limitations (and if we removed a lot of features then we would be able to offer that too). So, there are pros and cons but right now this is currently on all of our wish lists.
One thing to note... We have been working on much more complex forms and directory templates and have discovered that with the right CSS options you can have some pretty unique looks and can move fields in all types of places. If you open a support ticket I can show you a few examples of this but shortly we will have some general tutorials and hopefully some that focus just on layout. The Dynamic Forms 4.0 release allows each question table to be wrapped around a DIV which can provide more flexibility with layout options. One of these demos will be here:
