    Hi,

I am trying to have a question that is radio button type. The issue is that, every one of the answers for this question has very very long answer options. For example,

    This is the question.

1.This is a very very long answer option for the questionnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
1.This is another very very long answer option for the questionnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

I have been told that the character limitation is around 200. One possible way to get around this issue is to do the following:

"included within the Radio Button an HTML SPAN or DIV tag and then use client side events to set the values upon page load using the "Initial JavaScript" functionality."

Demo 20 has been suggested as an example to apply this strategy in my case, but I am having trouble setting it up and get it to work yet.

If someone can provide a detailed step to implement the suggested method, it will be much appreciated.
or if you know any better way to resolve this limitation issue, please let me know.  Thank you.

    Hello Sushan,

I would suggest going to Host -> SQL and update the column in the DynamicForms_Question table.

To see the structure of this table you can run the following query:

    sp_columns "DynamicForms_Question"

The column that you want to extend is named "Question". So if you're going to modify the size of this column, you will need to alter 3 sections.

Firstly you will need to alter the column Question by running the following query at Host->SQL:

    Alter Table DynamicForms_Question
    Alter Column Question nvarchar(4000)

Now after altering this column, there are two stored procedures that you will need to modify or else there will be errors in Dynamic Forms.

Go to Host -> SQL and look at these two stored procedures:

    sp_helptext "DynamicForms_AddDynamicQuestion"

    and

    sp_helptext "DynamicForms_UpdateDynamicQuestion"

You will need to alter these stored procedures to have the Question name variable to accept the same nvarchar value as you specified for the column in the DynamicForms_Question table.

So if you made the Question column an nvarchar(4000) then you will need to use this value in the stored procedures.

After altering these stored procedures you will need to go to Host -> Host Settings and Restart the Application.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

I just performed this procedure using nvarchar(max) for the Question column, and there is a Constraint on the table that results in this error:

    Msg 5074, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
The object 'DF_DynamicForms_Question_Question' is dependent on column 'Question'.
    Msg 4922, Level 16, State 9, Line 2
ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN Question failed because one or more objects access this column.

Maybe this error only occurs when changing the column to nvarchar(max) -- I don't know. My solution was to drop the Constraint first, then alter the Table, then add the Constraint again. I'm not posting the T-SQL code I used because I used the SQL Management Studio, and the syntax would be different when using the DNN Host SQL tab.

Just thought I'd share. Perhaps someone from DataSprings could chime in if there's something I'm missing.

    Hello Steve,

I would recommend looking into this I. Go to Host -> SQL and run this query to look at the information on this Constraint:

    SELECT OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) AS NameofConstraint,
    SCHEMA_NAME(schema_id) AS SchemaName,
    OBJECT_NAME(parent_object_id) AS TableName,
    type_desc AS ConstraintType,
    *
    FROM sys.objects
    WHERE type_desc LIKE '%CONSTRAINT'
    and name = 'DF_DynamicForms_Question_Question'

From what I can tell, this is a false constraint. I would just analyze the Constraint, recreate the Constraint type, then drop it. Then make the modifications to the Table and Procedures listed above and recreate the Constraint if you wish.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
