When attempting to set a default value for a field to a "DotNetNuke User Default" why does the DNN UserID not show in the list? Can this field not be accessed for this purpose? |

Hi Patrick, Yes this is currently not a user profile field at this time... probably not a bad feature to add though. I think you can do this though with a SQL default... Something like this I imagine. Select $(UserID) AS DefaultValue I think that should work as $(UserID) is one of the standard tokens processed within the module. Thanks! -Chad

I have a similar question. I am trying to set the default value (same process in three discrete drop downs and one checkbox) so that when a user gets to this DF to "update" their profile, the "DotNetNuke User Default" for each of these fields will show up, and then they will merely have to change which ever of them needs a change. The don't get to this page until the fields already have a value. The First, Lst name and email are all binding correctly. The filed sin question currently show only the first entry in the dropdowns options. The [age works corredtly except that it doesn't save the changes back to the db. That box is NOT checked. Each filed is defined to its mate in the User Profile Default undewrt the Advanced Settings menu (the second one after the definition of the "question" itself). These fields are all custom to the user profile. Perhaps I am confusing DR functionality and should be using that instead? |

Hi Scott,
Let me start by saying that Dynamic Forms can pull in data from profile properties but it does not update them (unless you use specific SQL events to update your user tables).
So, if you want users to register and then later have the ability to update their profiles, you will need Dynamic Registration, instead. In Admin, Site Settings, Page Management, you can choose to assign your DR page as the registration and the user profile pages so the user can use the same form to make changes. Or, if it fits your needs better, you can have a 2nd instance of DR on another page for the sole purpose of profile updates.
Hope that clears it up for you. Thanks!
Candace

I was afraid of that. I will just build the same basic form in DR (it will be my 3rd or 4th instance) since we've broken the updates down according to what they are addressing, rather than one daunting "form" every time they have a change. to anything. Thanks for the reply and for a great set of products. |
