I have a DNN install that has about 20 DF forms in it that work together for a complete solution for one client. I need to add additional clients to this solution and let each new client keep their data separated from the others. I am satisfied by adding an OrgID field to each table I'm using. The different client's data may exist in the same tables this way. the question is, could you please suggest how I can pass the org ID to each form in the application after the client identifies themselves one time during their visit?

Just to be clear, consider this. Client A identifies themselves on Form A when they arrive on the site. When they move to form B, or C or whatever on the site. I want the forms there to know who they are without asking the client again.

Keep in mind that Client B will be visiting the site at the same time wanting to do the same thing without crashing into client A.

    Your suggestions are welcome.

    Whetstone,

I believe you can pass information into and out of fields via a URL query string or a session variable. So if you can identify this up front you might be able to pass it through to your forms.

Secondly, it appears that you can assign default field values based on the DNN user profile settings (I haven't tried this out yet, but its in the UI). So if your users log into the site you could assign a hidden field to the user's Organization value or some other user-specific setting. This has the advantage of being hidden in your forms and not dependent on anything external other than the DNN login.

    Good Luck!

Yes... If the user is signed in I would probably have this tied to a DNN Core Profile field as Erik suggested. Otherwise, I would probably select to have the field data retrieved/passed as either a Session variable or a Cookie variable which are both options under advanced field options to receive and to pass. This might be easier to maintain then trying to keep the querystring parameter intact throughout the forms.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Erik and Chad. Excellent ideas! Of the options presented, I am leaning toward the DNN Core Profile field you both mentioned. It is readily available and doesn't need to be passed in the query string (and therefore visible) and its value would live longer than the session variable and would be usable on subsequent visits without prompting. Another benefit would be that I could move a user from one orgID to another diagrammatically - thereby making the user mobile between organizations. (That is a plus for what I'm doing). So thank you both
