This is the SQL that fails:  'Select ag_name as QuestionOption,ag_number as QuestionOptionValue From yb.dbo.Agency' It works in Host/SQL but not in Dynamic Question setup.  Is there a different way i need to use the external db connection name in my SQL?  Sounds like it should work.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Nicholas,

Is this really an external connection or can you run this from the same SQL Server / Database as the standard DotNetNuke database? At this time the SQL options only supports the same connection string as the DotNetNuke main connection string.

Our modules do allow for external connection strings in several areas, such as SQL Binding and SQL Events, but not for SQL options. We will review this in the future.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Is it common practice to create tables and views inside the DNN database?  So you are saying that i can not at this time access a different SQL server Database that is on the same server as the DNN install?

Hi Nicholas - Yes, this is pretty common practice... When you think about it, all new modules you install in DotNetNuke are also installing their own tables and views in the DotNetNuke database as well... it is less common (I would say) to have these tables outside of the DotNetNuke database. It is usually a good practice to add a prefix though such as DataSprings_DynamicForms_YourTableName etc...

    Thanks!
