I'm using Dynamic Registration 4.20.20 on a DNN 6.2.5 website that has "User Registration" set to "Verified" (not "Public").

I have the "Authorized" field enabled on the DR form and checked by default. When a user registers using this form (using some custom SQL validation on the form), their account is created and is authorized as expected.

But DR module doesn't auto-log in the user. Is this a bug? The user is already registered and authorized, so why can't they be logged in?

If I go to Admin > Site Settings and change "User Registration" to "Public", then the DR module does auto-log in. So it appears that just this setting (and not my DR options) are the problem. But we need to keep the site registration as Verified (or Private) for other business reasons. (That's the reason we're using the DR module to begin with, to gain more control over the registration process.)

Is there any other work-around for this issue (other than Public registration)?

Thanks in advance for any help with this...

Hi Larry - Yes, if the module is setup as Verified or Private, then no matter what the actual authorization is setup as the module would not attempt to sign the user in. This is because out of the box verification requires the user to click an email (to verify) their email address and private is there for when the admin usually needs to change the authorization. So... The only way within Dynamic Registration to have the user automatically signed in is if you have the registration set to Public.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Are you saying this is the way things are today because of how DR 4.20.20 is coded? Or how things MUST work because DNN won't allow it?

If this behavior could be changed in DR, then please consider this a feature request. It seems to make sense to support this scenario.

    Thanks,
    Larry

    Hi Larry,

Well I believe that technically if we needed to modify the source code for a request like this, DotNetNuke would technically allow it because the user would be authorized. I don't know that this request has ever come up before (primarily because the purpose of the "Verified" registration status is to actually verify the registration via a link).

Although we do review enhancement requests I believe this is pretty specific to your implementation (I could be wrong, this is just the first time this request has come up before). If you do end up needing some more direct attention such as a custom enhancement or feature then we offer Premium Services and support for feature requests such as this. You can find out more at http://www.datasprings.com/premiumsupport and/or pick up hours from our development team at http://www.datasprings.com/hours.

    Thanks for your feedback!

Thank you for your straight-forward reply.

We have decided to stick with Private user registration. We only want to allow people to register on our site if they already have some sort of known relationship with our company. But we don't want to manually verify each request due to the volume of requests and since verification can be done with a simple SQL query. So we verify their information in Dynamic Registration and then create a website account for them if their info is valid. This doesn't sound too unusual to me, but perhaps it is.

    Onward!

    Hi Larry,

I appreciate your suggestion and agree that for the specific requirements here having a private registration would be the best. In that case (and because this is really the major difference between public and private) I would simply redirect them to a thank you page that then included the login module with a big "You are setup, please sign in". Generally, the only difference between private and public registration would be if the flag to authorize the user automatically and sign them in. With your solution they would be authorized automatically but because the registration is set to private they would simply have to sign in.

If this feature request comes up with other users I will make sure its added within future releases and thank you again for your feedback.

    Thanks,

    -Chad

Thanks, Chad. The "You are setup, please sign in" suggestion was helpful and I will offer that to my client (as well the Premium Services option).
