We're running an older version of the module on DNN 5.6.1.
It's been working well for us for a few years, but suddenly began to fail recently declaring that the failure is due to SMTP settings. Our Log Viewer provides no additional info, and our SMTP is working fine for other modules. Anyone have any idea of how I can trouble shoot this?
Below is the probably useless log entry: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters,Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail

Hi Sean, Typically, when something suddenly stops working, it has to do with a change that occurred within the site/server that may seem unrelated at first. Did you get a chance to look at Admin > Event Viewer yet? What related errors are logged there? Thanks! Candace

Thanks for the response Candace,
I have checked the event viewer. Unfortunately, our site throws exceptions constantly. There have been 250 since this morning. I've inherited this project and it's very frustrating. I'm not aware of any changes to the site/server that were made around the time the module stopped working, or I would have already checked that out.
I was hoping to gain some insight maybe into how the module works, and what other modules/operations/whatever it may draw from that could cause the send failure.

Hi Sean, I can certainly sympathize with the pains of inheriting a project. I'm concerned that this is an "older version" as we might be limited in fully supporting this but let's see if we can find where the problem is. 1. What is your exact Opt In Email version from Host > Extensions? 2. Does email work in other areas of your site? For example, if you go to Admin > Newsletter and send a test message, does it get delivered correctly? 3. There were reported issues with DNN 5.6.1. Can you please check in Control Panel > Module Configuration if you have a defaulted Email From NAME? If you do, please delete this and see if your test newsletter will go out as normal. Thanks! Candace

Candace! #3. I needed to clear out the default email from address and name as well as those from the create new newsletter form and then it stopped failing. I know before we did in fact have a default email/name set up and it was working. Whatever caused it to stop remains unknown, but of no concern. Sending a test newsletter has never really worked right. It sends 1 copy of the letter for each subscriber in the database to the test address. So it floods the test inbox with 4000+ emails. Anyway, thanks for the help. |
