This is a strategy question. I have a Dynamic Form that adds a new record to a custom table called Tickets on the form completion event. I would like to be able to include the new TicketID field value in the confirmation email that the form sends out. Can you advise me on how to accomplish this?

The TicketId field is a key field with auto increment, so the form will not have the value of that field until the record is actually created.

Can I have a confirmation email - completion event wait until it gets a return value from a save record - sql completion event before firing off the confirmation email?

Or how else can it be done?  Thanks in advance.

I don't believe you'll be able to do this with 1 Dynamic Form. Because you won't know the auto incremented value until your SQL Completion Event is finished, at which point you can't include that value in your Email Completion Event.

Perhaps you can add another Dynamic Form that has a Hidden field with a SQL Default value that simply INSERT's into your Ticket table, and assigns Scope_Identity() as the default value. This way your hidden field value will be available for the Email event.

So the idea is that once your original Dynamic Form is submitted, send a HTTP Silent Post to this new Dynamic Form. Pass all the information via the HTTP Silent post as necessary. Be sure to remove the Email and SQL in your original Dynamic Form that executes upon submission, because these events will now be handled in the new Dynamic Form.

Does this make sense? This new Dynamic Form should never INSERT a new ID unless an HTTP Silent Post is invoked. Therefore ensuring that the auto incremented value is accurate.

Let me know if this assists you.

    Thanks,

    Ryan
