    DOTNETNUKE: 4.3.6

I am concerned about the impact on the web server of sending out a newsletter to several thousand subscribers. Is there a way to minimize the impact of this, for example sending the emails out at a scheduled time, or with a small delay between each email? If this cannot be done, is it possible to export the email addresses and newsletter so that I could use an external program to do the mailing. Or can the component of your software that does the mailing be run on a separate server than the web server?

Hello. Yes, many users have had the same concern. In V2.6 we implemented two features that should help.

    1. All newsletters can now be 'Scheduled'. When scheduling a newsletters you can specify the interval that DotNetNuke Scheduler should execute and you can also specify how many distributions should go out per schedule.

Example: Lets say you have an opt-in distribution list of 3,000 people. You could specify the scheduler to run every hour but only sent 300 per hour. All of your newsletters would end up going out after 10 hours and if your host had any email restrictions (say 500 per hour) then you wouldn't need to worry about the restrictions. You can change the interval to maybe execute ever 4 hours and send 1000 per distribution etc...

    2. Even with V2.5 you can export your entire email distribution list within the module to an Excel/CSV file. Many of our customers then import this file into their own desktop application for distribution. Additionally, we have software coming out soon called Max Messaging which will be a desktop application specifically for this purpose with the DotNetNuke Opt In Email Module fully integrated with the desktop application.

    Hope this helps!

    -Chad
