    Hi Chad,

I hope you can help me with what I am attempting to build.

Basically a form with First Name, Last Name, and Email fields.

Once submitted, the person is redirected towards another URL whereby the three previous fields are presented in read only fields. Below it, three differing subscribe options and then off to Paypal for Payment.

Is HTTP Post the best means in which to carry the previously inputted information onto another form? And if so, is there detailed instructions in how to accomplish this? I have read the guide, but unfortunately, the information within is not enough for me to carry this out.  Perhaps the best way to learn is to import an example. Is this possible?

Sorry for all the newbie questions, but:

    • Regarding the HTTP Post URL, does it have to be a valid URL, insofar I cannot test it on my localhost?
    • How do I set up the landing page, or do I need to do anything?
    • Also, the HTTP Post parameters and tokens, is there a basic list in which someone could choose from or review in hopes to learn?

Also, I wish to ensure a date is place within the Form Results once the Submit button is pressed. I read elsewhere it is possible via this: CONVERT(VARCHAR,getdate(),101) As DefaultValue,. <=Where does one place this code?

    With Much thanks in Advance,

    Susan

OK… I have sorted out a portion of my question.

HTTP Post was not what I was looking for, although passing values/variables between servers would be neat to know, what I was looking for was passing and retrieving variables/values between sessions located within each Dynamic Question’s Advanced Field Options. TADA! It works just fine 

Although, in layman terms, what is the difference between passing/retrieving values to the following variables?:
    1. Session Variable
    2. Query string Variable
    3. Cookie Variable

My question(s) regarding the ‘Date’ option, as mentioned within my post above, still stands. Anyone’s help would be most welcomed.

Hi. Yes the HTTP Post feature is more geared towards 'silent HTTP Posts' that will post data to other sources (such as another form you have as if the user submitted it themselves, or other sites such as SalesForce.com or Constant Contact etc...).

As far as this querystring / session / cookie variables. There are many sites related to showcasing these differences but basically...

Querystring variables are variables passed from within the URL. So for example, look up at the URL for the page right now. You will see something such as /forumID/5/... This means that there is a querystring variable passed via this URL called ForumID with a value of 5. There are others such as PostID with a value of 4424 etc... These are querystring variables. You need to be careful with these types of variables though because anyone could just put any text/value within them and it could cause the page to not function properly. Lets say that you force a user to choose 'Employer' from a dropdownlist. Then its passed along the querystring such as /AcctType/Employer.. Well they could easily change the URL to be /AcctType/JobSeeker and if the 2nd form or application rendered that different it could be a security issue.

Session variables and cookie variables both have their own advantages and disadvantages as well. For example, cookie variables can be 'reset' if the user goes into IE and clears their cookies. Session variables will be lost however after the user closes their browser, etc...

You might review this post or others that refer to the same question:
    http://forums.asp.net/t/1209639.aspx

As far as the date question... That code you entered goes into the advanced field settings, default value (select the option for SQL default), then enter that into the SQL default. I would make the question a textbox initially to see that its working properly, and then once you verified its working I would change that to be a hidden field.
