I am using version 3.10.21 of the dynamic registration module. My customer accidentally created a problem I need to fix.

He essentially created the following error.

A critical error has occurred.
Unable to find control id 'TBR_GUID1d73aa93-c6be-409e-8485-390d0b76bf47JobTitlle' referenced by the 'ControlToValidate' property of 'Validate_1d73aa93-c6be-409e-8485-390d0b76bf47'.

Unfortunately, I am not sure what he did. It looks like he accidentally created a circular reference to a validation control. How do I isolate the error and delete the reference in the database so this module will start functioning again?

Hi. Yes the best thing to do is try and get back into the manage questions/settings area and temporarily disable client side validation. This can happen (at least before the 3.2 release) if you setup fields to validate such as compare validators, or maybe setup the configuration area to automatically validate the email address, and then you end up deleting the email field etc.... 

To get back into the manage questions area you need to go to the page, probably go to the 'settings' area and when you see ctl/settings you should change that to be ctl/Edit etc... This way you can get back into the administration area.

I've just experienced the same error running 03.20.65 on DNN4.8.0

I'd just setup a compare validator on the password confirmation field.

I can't see anyway to get back to the page as the error is raised and the DataSpring module is not rendered (either in host or user mode).

I guess I'm going to have to attack the DB - any pointers?

Just a little more information.  Looking at the DR Question table, the  GUID in the error message relates to the 'Display Name'  and not either of the password fields, the CompareValidatorQuestionId field contains a completely different GUID.

I've fixed the problem on my primary install by resetting (to zeros) the GUID in the CompareValidatorQuestionID.

I've tried it again on another DNN install (this time with 4.9.0), the error is raised and I'm locked out - more surprisingly the GUID in the error message is that of the Display Name question!

Yes Dynamic Registration has built in functionality to automatically add the compare validator for the password/password confirm field.

Please check this thread, this will outline how this can happen (because of compare validators, sometimes if the compare field get set higher in the sort order then the first field, or if you add compare validators to password/confirm password fields)

This thread also highlights how to get back into 'Edit' mode if you are getting this error and cannot access the control panel.

Ok, just to try to get everyone up to speed with what I did, I actually manually typed in the page edit url and was able to get to the edit screen. Once there, I simply made the correction and all was good!

I am not seeing how to get that edit url.  The tab id is 1051 and I  think the module id is 148.
