We recently upgraded our site to DNN 5.0, and now there is a page error whenever we have a DynamicForms 2.6 module with a CheckBoxGroup in it.

The error we get in Internet Explorer is:

'dnn.controls.toolbars' is null or not an object
    Default.aspx      Line: 535
    Code: 0           Char: 1

The error goes away as soon as the CheckBoxGroup is removed from the DynamicForms module.

This error appears regardless of the contents of the CheckBoxGroup element.  For example, we can have a perfectly working page with a DynamicForms module in it.  As soon as a CheckBoxGroup element is added (even if it has no values, scripts, etc.) and the changes are saved, the error starts to appear.

Does anyone know how we could fix this?

    Thanks.

Hi. Thanks for posting this, we have had another user report a similar incident with Dynamic Registration but he is now using the check box group control and is still getting the error. Can I ask a few other questions...

    1. What browser is this, IE/FireFox etc?
    2. Was this DNN 5.0 version an upgrade or a new release? From your description you mentioned an upgrade, can you let me know what version you upgraded from? I am wondering since we cannot duplicate it locally if maybe this is effecting upgrades but not new releases (such as if an updated JavaScript file was in the install file but not upgrade file? just a thought).
    3. Does it matter if you are signed in or not signed in? Does the error always occur?
    4. Does it matter if you are showing the help icons or not showing the help icons?

We will continue to research this, please post as many details as you can so we can duplicate it.

    Hi Chad,

    1. This is in Internet Explorer (tested in IE7 and IE8 beta).

    2. This was an upgrade from 4.9.0. The current page uses a JavaScript file from the DataSprings Demonstration #6 (http://www.datasprings.com/Products...ault.aspx) to calculate the total price. We didn't modify the JavaScript file after upgrading to DNN 5. However, I don't think that the error is caused by the JavaScript file, since we have created test pages where we add a Dynamic Forms module from scratch with a CheckBoxGroup that has no elements/scripts, and it still shows the error.

    3. No, the error occurs regardless of whether one is logged in or not. One very interesting detail is that it does *not* occur if you are logged in and in Edit mode. As soon as you switch to View mode, however, the error appears.

    4. No, the error appears with and without help icons.

I don't mean to make a shameless plug for our site, but it might help if you can see the actual page. The link is: http://www.aventuraforestal.com/Mak...fault.aspx ">http://www.aventuraforestal.com/Mak...fault.aspx

    Thanks!

    Andrés,

Hi. I just wanted to follow up with you on this thread. We have another user reporting it and so far the two 'knowns' from both of you guys are:

    1. Upgraded version of DNN to DNN 5.0
    2. Does not appear when the module is in 'Edit' mode when you are authenticated as a user.

We do not have a work around at this time as we still need to test this. This might end up being a bug either in the DNN JavaScript files, or in Dynamic Forms/Dynamic Registration but we do not know yet. You might also be able to get around this be disabling the in-line editor in the module configuration area (this is what renders the DNN tool bar). Like I said though, we are still researching this. The DNN ToolBar is part of the main page, but it shouldn't be visible or displayed if the user is not the admin so this sounds like where the bug is coming from based on the description.

I will follow up with this thread soon!

Hi. I have followed up related to this forum in the DotNetNuke.com forums. You can find the thread here related to the DNN 5.0 DNN ToolBar JavaScript Error w/ Dynamic Forms and Dynamic Registration.

Our modules have one line of code that sets the visibility for a toolbar to false if the user is not an admin and is not in edit mode. This one line I believe is causing the problem.

Hi. I wanted to follow up on this, I think I found that was causing the problem. A patch should be issued shortly in the next minor or major build.

I am having the same problem and wanted to see if there is a solution or patch. I am using Dynamic Registration 3.2 with DNN 5.0.1 (clean install).

I disabled the in-line editor but still see the error “’dnn.controls.toobar’ is null or not an object.”

    Thnaks,
    Lewis

Hi guys... Lewis, I saw your thread earlier on DotNetNuke.com as well and response to your support ticket. I think it would help if we anyone having this problem also reviewed that thread.

    http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community...fault.aspx

Ultimately we want to fix this issue but its difficult because we have a very limited number of clients running into the issue (3 I am aware of) and I have highlighted on the forum thread.

Also, I just want to highlight that there are two separate issues on this thread. One related to client side validation and the checkbox group field type (this one I am still researching) and the other related to always seeing the dnn.controls.toolbar error message. One you should be able to turn off client side validation or validation specifically for the check box list to see if you still have the problem, the other is the one I am addressing in my response and the thread on DotNetNuke however.

I'm having the same problem. Upgraded from 4.6 to 5.1 and have the dnn.controls.toolbars error. I have a checkbox group on the page as well.

    Hi Jason,

I sent you a reply by email but I'm also posting it here for others who are following this thread:

We've received reports about this related to DNN 5.x and we've narrowed it down to some DNN Javascript file for inline editing of the labels that somehow does not get rendered unless you're in Edit mode.  We're still trying to figure out what's causing this but we have a couple of work arounds that you can try:

    1.  Place a Text/HTML module somewhere on the page.  Leave this blank and in settings, leave the title blank and hide the container but leave it visible to all.  Setting it up so it's 'there but no one can see it' mode somehow tricks DNN to render the javascript on the whole page.

    2.  You can use a Script Injector module.  See this forum thread that shows you how it's done.

Let us know which workaround does it for you.  Thanks!

    Candace
