I've tried several different times to make "column span" work as I'm trying to mix rows with a single field with rows that have multiple fields and I can't make it work. I've read posts where I have to use larger column spans but my trial and error method has cost me a lot of time with no success ... Help, please!
Thanks.

I should have noted that I'm using DF 2.7.4 and DNN 4.8.2.

I would have to agree as well with Julie that something is still goofy with column span... it is a science that I haven't been able to figure out at all - really, just pure dumb luck when things work out. Even just a simple effort to have two questions side-by-side, and a third question beneath them spanning both columns, turns in to an hour long odessey to figure out what tweak to make it all line up. |

Hi guys... Thanks for your feedback. There are many feature we would like to implement to improve multi column forms. As far as setting colspan there really is a science and logic to it but it can get very tricky with the slightest change in wrong direction. A few tips... 1. The colspan and rowspan features are currently only supported with fields that have the field label and field in the same column. We will need to add an additional setting later to support colspan properties 2. Its best to probably use colspan more then row span. Colspan means you are spanning across multiple columns within the entire Dynamic Forms table. This means that the more columns you add (such as another column of fields) the more you need it. 3. For some fields, if you are trying to span across the entire form with multiple columns (like HTML or Horizontal Ruler) its best to use a colspan of at least 5 or more. When all else fails... Load up the entire module within a printer friendly version and take the TEXT/HTML Source and load it in either an HTML Editor such as dreamweaver or even the FCK Editor and adjust/see how adjusting the colspan can make a difference. HTML Tables and settings can be pretty particular at times so although this does work there is plenty of room for improvement. Hope these tips are useful. -Chad |

Thanks Chad... Consider this scenario: A simple Contact Us form. First Row is two question fields $(First_Name) and $(Last_Name), with $(Last_Name) configured to be on same row as previous question, all other settings default (like field width = 200, etc..) Third question is $(Free_Text), on it's own row below Firstname and lastname, but the preference is for this to be 500px wide and to span the width of the form. Fourth question is $(Agree), just a simple checkbox with some terms in the header. Fieldname is hidded, also trying to span the width of the form. No matter what is tried, I can not get the third question to line up. Setting colspan to 2 through 30, the Field Name for $(Free_Text) takes up the first column where First_Name and Last_Name reside, and the form text entry region for $(Free_Text) appears in it's own column to the far right of all else. That is just one scenario, where it would seem that shouldn't be so complicated to make the adjustment. |

Are all of these set to display the label and field in the same column? If so, Export the XML and load it up on www.betasprings.com (login as host/dnnhost) and we will let you know what is needed to get the look and feel you are trying to get. I understand the frustration (trust me ) but there probably is a way to make it work right. -Chad |

Also, another 'Tip' I like to use.... If things just seem way out of wack and a little cray then its also possible that you might have tried adjusting one field too far (for colspan and rowspan). This has happened to us several times and the best way around it is to use the Advanced Field Wizard to set all fields colspan to 1 and all fields rowspan to 1 (except maybe HTML fields or Horizontal Ruler fields). Then you have a fresh start and you can set the colspan correctly field by field to make it span across. The more columns you have the more the column span needs to be set to span across the entire table row. -Chad |

Hi, I'm having some difficulties with a multi-column form too. What I'm trying to achieve is a 4-column form with 3 rows. The tricky thing: the first column should have rowspan of 3! So, what I've done so far is: a; set all questions to "Display label and field in same coumn (override general setting)" b;Add a question with rowspan = 3 c;Add 3 further questions with "Add field to same row as previous question" So i do have a 4 - column row. this is where i get stuck. How to add a question to the 2nd column of the 2nd row?? Initutively i added another question with "Add field to same row as previous question" unchecked, but this results in a new row underneath my first question, .. so no rowspan at all! Any hints or just a little advice into the right direction? Thanks in Advance, advin! |

HI, can you export your form to www.betasprings.com(username:host,password: dnnhost) and send us the URL/TABID of the page. It's easier to see what you are doing if we can visualize see the form and fields involved. -- David |
