    Hi,

On my form I have a Checkbox Group consisting of 32 category names.  The user can check none, one, or as many as he/she wants and the field data is written to the database as a list: "category1, category4, category14, etc"

I'm looking to set default values for this checkbox group based on a sql query to a table, but I don't think I have that option.  So I was thinking of using the "core integration default value" and pulling default values from a field there, but I'm not sure what the format of the data should be to cause default checkboxes to be ticked.  If I use a list like above ("category1, category4, category14, etc") nothing gets checked.

On a side note, the checking the default checkboxes in the "Advanced Field Options" doesn't seem to work either.  a) If I check multiple boxes only one is saved when I return to the"Advanced Field Options" screen and b) even that one default checkbox does not appear checked when I look on the form itself.

    Thanks for your help,
    Erik

Hi Erik, in response to your questions:
    1) you are correct in that only one value can be chosen as the default value under "Advanced Field Options"; if more than one value is picked, it's only choosing the first one on the list at the moment (will log this as a bug)
    2) Since the picked values on the checkbox group are stored in the database as a single long string separated by a comma, the form at of the data is actually a "TEXT" field datatype
    3) I don't believe it's possible to set default values using an SQL query since the SQL query is used to populate the checkbox group dynamically and doesn't know the values you want checked beforehand
    4) but you should be able to use DNN core integration and pulling in values from there (note the datatype would be a TEXT datatype, also type in your value exactly the way it would be saved in the database with comman seperated values)
Try this out and see if it works for you. -- David

    Hi David,

As always, thanks for your quick response..!

I actually used the core integration method to select default values for the Combo Box field and that worked well.  But it's not working for the textbox group.  The submitted result of that textbox group field is as you would expect: the value of each option seperated by comma, no spaces (i.e. "101,104,108").

But if I pull in the same formatted values from a core field, the corresponding checkboxes don't check by default.  I even tried pulling in the Option Text instead of the Option value (i.e. "101 Cat1, 104 Cat4, 108 Cat8") but no luck.

So I'm stuck: not sure if it's possible to do this at all, or if the default data I'm pulling in should be something else.

    Thanks,

    Erik

HI Erik, I just talked to our chief developer Chad and it seems field type "Checkbox Group" is not being mapped to DNN core in Dynamic Forms. He will add this as an enhancement for the next patch of DF. Thanks for bringing this up to our attention. -- David

    Hallo,

i wanted to ask if the "bug" has been fixed? .. Is it possible to set multiple default - values for the checkbox-list in e.g. Advanced options or even more important in an Question event?

    regards, Michael
