    Hi Chad,

I saw some other recent posts related to calculated fields. I've just started using DynamicForms and would find it useful for a particular application for a Total field which would add up other selected fields.

This particular scenario would have check boxes next to options. When the options are selected, the summation field would dynamically show the total amount. I am not trying to make a shopping cart, just a form that allows a user to make selections, see the result and submit the form for further action.

I'm sure you would need to make this much more flexible and handle various other situations, but thought I would let you know there is interest in this ability.

    Rob,

Hi. Thanks for your comments. Yes we are for sure adding this to the next releases of Dynamic Forms and Dynamic Registration (as well as build-in payment ability such as Authorizenet and Paypal).

Not sure exactly how it will function at this point but we will take your comments into consideration. What we are guessing right now is that a certain field will 'Fire' a calculation and the calculation can be based on short field names etc...

Basically for a checkbox it would be an 'On Checked Change' javascript client side event that could be specified within the field settings. For the textbox fields they could be different. The actual text would be something like this:

$(TotalValueField) = $(Checkbox1) + $(Checkbox2) + $(Checkbox3) etc.... In your case you would probably have to enter the calculation field on each checkbox field type.

Anyway, this will end up being a fun release/enhancement as these will be very fast (won't require postback for calculation) events/calculations and the integration as an e-commerce/payment form will be an added plus.

    -Chad

Its a little scary when I get so excited about something and let me tell you I am excited about this enhancement

This feature is basically already being tested in our test environment right now. It will work as I mentioned above. You won't need to know any javascript although since it technically is 'calling' javascript you will still have to be careful with the syntax so....

$(Field1) = $(Field2) + ($Field3) would work great, still researching all of the calculations that can be done but so far so good.

HI Amy, you put these in the client side event under "Advanced Field Options". For example, let's say you have a textbox with shortname "Total" which you want to set equal to sum of textbox shortnames "field1" and "field2". Where you manage the question for Total, expand the "Advanced Field Options" and in the "Client Side Event" box, enter: $(Total) = $(field1) + $(field2)

How / when does it display the answer??

I would ideally like it to display instantly as you tab off the field1, field2 etc..? Is that possible? or does it need to happen after clicking submit.
