    And hello again

I understand that we can now give a non-admin role access to see the form results. I can't quite see how to do this, unless we have to give the role edit permissions on the whole module, which is going too far.

Is it possible to do this?

    Any advice is appreciated,
    Rob

    Hello Robax,

This is a possible feature in Dynamic Forms 3.3 and Dynamic Forms 3.4 only.

You will need to go to "Module Configuration - > View Results Options/ Security". Here you will find a drop down list  "View Results Security Role" and this is where you can specify the non-admin role applied to the form results.

Please see click this link to see an image:

View Results Options/ Security for DF 3.3 and DF 3.4

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Thanks for the reply Ryan, that's exactyl what I needed!

I've just been testing this out and it's not working quite as one might expect.

    I have this set:

My "Content Manager" role does not have edit permissions on the module.
View Results Security Role: Content Manager
The next 3 fields beginning with "Allow non admins..." are all checked.
Display form results within user-facing form display: Not displayed.

When I view the form page signed in as that role, I only see the form. I can't find how to view the results?

I'm sort of expecting a button/link to appear, taking me to the View Results page.

This is module version 15668_0_DataSprings_DynamicForms_Module33_61_DNN45PLUS running on DNN 5.4.4

I'll go and check Snowcovered and see if there's a 3.4 release out as your posts suggest, but let me know if I've got this wrong somewhere.

    Thanks heaps
    Rob

Just keeping this on the radar as it doesn't work as has been suggested.

    Hello Robax,

I have been able to get this to successfully work.

1.) I would start by creating a new role, then create a new user and add him to that role.

2.) As either host or admin, go to the Module Configuration -> View Results Options and select viewable to the role you have created. Allow for this role to do all of the non-admin stuff, like manage template, view results, all that good stuff by checking those check boxes.

3.) You can also make the results viewable below or above the form if that's what you want to do. This is important if you want the records to display.

4.) Logout of the admin,/host account and log in as your new user with the same security role as your specified in your View Results Options.

5.) Now when logged in as this user that you created you'll see the title of the form with a little drop down arrow. Hover your mouse and you now have access to all of the options you specified in View Results Options.

If you have any problems please let me know.

P.S. Most important part of this is being logged in as a user with the same role as you specified in Module Configuration -> View Results Options.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

    Hi Rob,

Dynamic Forms 3.4 is scheduled for release around mid-August.

Logged in as a user with the right role, you should be able to access view form results from the little down arrow by the module name (like you're going to edit the settings).  Here you should find View Form Results.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the replies Candace and Ryan.. much appreciated.

I think what you've both missed is that in order for the module action menu (the little down arrow) to be visible to a role, that role must have full edit permissions on the module, which of course exposes all of the configuration and editing options, and is undesirable.

The documentation also suggests that only View permissions are required for this, and I also stated in my posts above that I had not assigned module-edit permissions to the designated role.

What the module really needs to do is expose a link to the results page, directly from within the module interface, not via the action menu. Then it would behave in the manner suggested.

Please let me know if that has made sense.
    Regards
    Rob

Rob - are you sure the 'View Results' link doesn't show up for the user with that role? I confirmed via the code that it should be and this is similar to other features that are used in Dynamic Registration for 'Manage Users'. Could you please setup an example if this in Beta Springs?

Hi Chad, thanks for checking this.

I can see what's going on now. You've done something to modify the behaviour of the default DNN menu that makes it display the action menu to roles that do not have edit rights on the module.

I use a third party menu (NorthSkyMenu) that of course only follows the normal behaviour - no edit right equals no action menu.

This is going to affect any third party menu. Is there any way you can avoid using the action menu and instead place a link in the body of the module?

That would be preferable and more broadly compatible, but I can also send a note to the NorthSky developer if there's something straightforward he can do to make this work. Let me know on that one.

    Regards
    Rob

    Hi Rob,

Well the module uses and implements the IACTION interface and it's a pretty common code. There are many times you might add menu items for non edit mode/ provide rights to a menu item for a user that wouldn't have user rights. I am not familar with that 3rd party menu. Does it not work with the DNN IACTION interface?

I don't think we plan to change the code related to this, but an easy solution to this for you is to either add a text module viewable to users in that role. Or.... A HTML field on the form only viewable to that role. Then within the HTML just include a link to the view only.

I would check with your other menu vendor though as we are using pretty standard code to do this.

    Thanks,

    Chad

OK yep, I'll pass that back to the developer of the other menu (he did the old House menu as well) and see what happens.

I think the idea to put a link in another module will do fine for my needs here, so I'll do that as well.

Thanks Ryan, the developer of the menu has indicated that he can fix this, so I'll just sit tight and wait.

    Thanks Rob,

We will close this issue out on our end and consider it working as designed.
