Trying to complete a registration form where parent info is on first page, then any number of multiple pages for children info. How do I get all info to pass? |

Hello Glennie,
Either you can insert all of your info into a database table in which can be referenced when ever you need all of the info, or you can use a querystring to carry all of your URL's. You wouldn't really need to show the parent child relationship either, you could just redirect to your next page and have the "Pages that you believe to be children" not viewable in the menu.
So your options are by using a SQL script or by using the querystring.
If you have any questions please let us know.
Thanks,
Ryan |

Thank you Ryan,
Still confused. I got the first page to go to the second using a completion event, but when second page submitted only sent first page info. Read the demo about passing session info, then creating hidden fields on second page and retrieving session info in those fields. Is this what I have to do?
I thought all field info was held in a database? I understand about not showing subsequent pages in menu. Can you be more specific about passing info? Not sure how to capture parent info with multiple children info. I don't want a parent with 5 children to have to fill out the same form 5 times with same parent info. Thanks for your help. |

HI, if you are creating multi-page, you can pass all the fields from page 1 either as session variables or querystring variables. On page 2, have all of the fields from page 1 along with addiional page 2 fields. All the page 2 fields that are coming from page 1 should be set to either retrieve session variables or querystring variables. This would work for you. -- David |

So many issues!! At one time I had the variables passing from parent page to child page. Now, I can NOT get it to work. Here's what I'm trying to do:
Initial page: parent page with all fields coded to pass session variable to child page, using html link to get to next page
Child page 1: all parent fields are hidden, coded to retrieve session variable. Child page 1 has a submit (if finished) or another html link to add another child taking them to Child page 2.
When should you use sql variable as opposed to session variable?
Problems: 1) Need to pass all variables from page to page until they submit. 2) Need to get all results onto a web page. How to do this?
3)Check box combo variables do not show in results
Can I upload my files for someone's review? I feel like I'm so close to getting this to work and I've learned a LOT, but I'm running out of time. Thanks for anyone's help! |

HI, on your Child page, when you say parent fields are hidden (are they hidden fields or set to hide until display by question event)??? SQL variables are for SQL binding where you have the form retrieve data from an SQL table so it would not be suitable for this scenario where you have multi-page forms. You can export your pages to www.betasprings.com (username: host, password: dnnhost) and state the URL/TABID and we'll take a look at the configurations, etc. -- David |

Thank you David. I have values passing from parent registration form to second page participant #1.If I submit form at that point, spreadsheet looks good and all values there. If I continue from participant #1 to third page, participant #2, then submit from there...well, let's just say it's really ugly. I think values are passing through but they all end up in one cell of spreadsheet. I have different short name for all subsequent fields on each form because it is same information, but I couldn't pass and retrieve same short name.
Can you be more explicit as to how to "export a page" and upload it to your site? I can export content to an xml file, but not sure how to upload/import anything to your site. |

So Participant#1 is the second page from from this page, you are going to Participant#2 which is the third page and you want to submit the form at this stage? And your shortname fields from Parent Page 1 and Participant#1 page are not being retrieved on Participant#2 page? On Participant#1 page, make sure all the fields here are also passed as session variables. Then on Participant#2 page, in addition to having new shortname fileds, make sure to include all the shortname fields from Parent page 1 and Participant#1 page be included and have them retrieve from session variables. This should work for you. If this is what I'm understanding you are trying to do. -- David |
