DF 3.10.12
DNN 5.1.1
IIS 7
Problem: When you go to the page for the first time (for example, after an hour with no visits) the form takes 30 seconds to load. There are only 5 text fields.
If another user on another pc with another browser visits after you, the form pops up almost immediately.
I have tried setting heavy caching for the site, and the longest caching possible for the module - to no apparent result.
We recently moved to a new server with IIS 7, and I am wondering if that could be the problem - perhaps a setting?
Also, the load time issue appears in a test site for DNN 5.4.2 as well.
(On another note, whenever I click on Update Settings it sends me to the wrong page which causes an error message and has shut the app pool down twice. I also had to export my form content and recreate it in a clean module, since the "required" error messages stopped appearing next to the fields. Is it possible these could be linked?)

Hi GeishaMX,
This has been previously reported and discussed in the forum thread on Dynamic Forms - 64 Bit Operating System Issues.
This has been fixed starting v3.3 so I would recommend you upgrade to Dynamic Forms 3.4 to make sure you have all the enhancements and fixes. You should get an automatic 40% discount if you're upgrading from DF 3.1. Thanks!

Hi Candace, We have the slow load problem as described above, also on W2008R2 64 bit. Dnn is 5.5.1. However we are on 3.4.1 of the forms software, so above advice does not apply. Do you have any other advice for us? Regards, James.

Hello James,
I'm sorry for the late response on your forum thread, however forums sometimes get lost in the void of time and space.
Have you received any information on this yet in another form of communication or are you still in the need for advice?
If you have any questions please let us know
Thanks,
Ryan

Hello Kearnyit,
What version of Dynamic Forms are you running on??
What DNN version are you running on??
If you go to Module Configuration -> AJAX / jQuery Integration and disable jQuery and AJAX does the performance enhance?
Thanks,
Ryan

Hello Bill,
Can you please create me a test page on your site with Dynamic Forms on it, then provide the link so I can see the behavior.
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi All, You may be having this issue due to the server unloading the ASP application when it is idle. I have solved this by using a Keep Alive service that visits the site every 5 minutes to keep it loaded. You can get a low priced keep alive program from Snowcovered that can keep all your sites alive. My sites are much quicker now, but I still notice some lag with large forms. -Mike |

This is also causing us major problems as well. We are using this on a number of sites (one of which has a 10 page form) and they are all very slow when clicking on the page for this first time. We will look to adding this to a Keep Alive program but do you know when the speed will be fixed or improved.? We are using version 3.40.1.0 on DNN Version 05.05.01 (22) |

Hello Beccy,
Is your form large or small?? Perhaps the Keep Alive program will solve your program, it is a free program. I would have to say sometimes depending on the DNN site and certain settings in the Web.Config that makes Dynamic Forms seem like a resource hog. I have many DNN installations that don't have lag with Dynamic Forms. It must boil down to IIS settings, or how many resources are available on your server.
But all in all, Disable jQuery and AJAX in your form under Module Configuration -> AJAX /jQuery Integration and see if the performance is somewhat more efficient.
If not then try Keep Alive and let us know how this helps you.
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan
The forms aren't too large, about 10-15 fields per page. One of the pages has 30 fields, but that doesn't seem to be the issue as any page with Dynamic Forms on seems to be very slow to load.
We tried the keepalive workaround, which does improve speed slightly, but there is still a very long wait of approximately 30 seconds to load the page - that's for 10 fields, but for forms with over 30 fields it takes well over 1 minute.
As for resources, the server is a quad core machine (2.5GHz per core) and has 4 GB RAM. Nothing else is running on the server. It is a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit OS, with all the latest patches installed.
Data Springs Dynamic Forms version is 3.40.1.0, DNN version is 5.5.1 and we are using IIS7 on Windows 2008 R2 x64.
Seeing as so many other people seem to be experiencing the same problem, can you give us some idea how long it will take to fix this?
Thanks
Beccy |

I have had clients complain about the same thing. The site is setup on a "keep-alive" and the site is fast... but the first time you go to the contactus.aspx it takes 15 - 20 seconds to load that one page. Once it has been loaded it is fast. If you switch to another page and then back to the contactus.aspx it is there immediately but not the first time you go to it. This is on DNN version 5.6 and dynamic forms 34.41 Enterprise. Any solutions would be very welcomed. |

Hi everyone. I was able to reslove this issue without using a keep-alive. The trick is to change the application pool to 32bit mode. 1.Right click on the Application Pool and select “Advanced Settings…” or select the same from the Actions pane after selecting the Application pool 2.Change the “Enable 32-bit Applications” to True http://blog.davidyack.com/journal/2...tions.html |

Hi Notandy We already tried setting the app pool to 32 bit mode, but we still had problems, so this doesn't fix it for us I'm afraid. There is still the same lag (15 to 30 seconds depending on form size) when loading the page. Has anyone from Data Springs managed to resolve this yet? Beccy |

Hi Beccy, Does this only happen when navigating to the form the very first time (in a while?) or does it happen even if you have loaded the form and come back to a minute or so later? Can I ask where you are hosting (dedicated server or shared hosting?) and maybe your performance settings under host/host settings? Do you see any errors in the event log (under admin/event viewer?). You might be able to add your DLL to the GAC of the server possibly... this could end up speeding things up. I know that this can be a problem the very first time the DLL is stored into the CACHE of the .NET application but it should not happen after that unless nobody has hit the site for a very long time. Also - What .NET framework are you running on? Thanks, -Chad

Hi all - Just a quick update here... This was posted by a customer recently and I wanted to post the update here in case it fixes the issue. ---- I may have found something that helps with the module load times. I had been working with Microsoft recently on an unrelated application performance issue and during the troubleshooting process one of their engineers mentioned changing the "Idle Time-out (minutes)" value in the Advanced Settings of the respective application pool (in IIS 7.5). The default is 20 and I have changed it to 0. So far it appears that I can let this site sit for quite a while and the DS modules load up pretty quick on the next call to them (at least with DF). I'll keep that setting in place and let you know how things go. -- Thanks, Chad
