Show question based on prvious question which is sql driven

    I have three questions. 

    Q1 (radio) Profession is sql driven.
     
    Q2 (radio) Specialty is sql driven and shows answers based on Q1’s selection.

    Q3 (textbox) License is hidden.  I want to show Q3 only if the specialty selected in Q2 requires a license.

    Is this possible?  If so could someone point me in the right direction?

    Hi Steve,
    You should be able to get Q3 to show in the form only based on Q2 through the use of question events. Take a look at the following link on how to use question events in your form: http://www.datasprings.com/products...oupon-code

    Don,

    I probably should have clarified more.

    I already have several question events in my form that show hidden questions, so I am fairly comfortable in doing that. Also Q2 Specialty is hidden as well until Q1 is answered.

    When I select  “Display hidden question based on another questions response” in a question event  to show Q2 and select Q1 as the initiation question, I am given a nice list of initiation responses from Q1.

    When I select  “Display hidden question based on another questions response” in a question event  to show Q3 and select Q2 as the initiation question, the list of initiation responses is empty.  I believe this is because Q2 is generated by the response from Q1, Q2’s answers have not yet been defined.

    I am hoping there is a way around this.  If it was listed in Demo 32, then I am missing something in the demo, and maybe you could narrow it down for me. i.e which question would demonstrate this.

    Hi Steve,
    I see that I probably gave you too quick of an answer. There is something quick for us to check. It is the "disable Ajax" setting in module configurations. If current javascript in the form is controlling the display of what is behind hidden fields then this could help. If not it is still a part of the solution. You might also have to pass the values from the sql to hidden fields and then refresh the values in the dynamic questions after they become visible through client side javascript placed in module configuration area.

    Hi Steve,
    If dissabling AJAX is not enough then also add this kind of try catch code to the module configurations area after any java script in the initial javascript area. Also put this code in the Radio Button under advanced field options and in client side event:
    try
    {
    $(x) = $(x1);
    $(y) = $(y1);
    }
    catch(err)
    {

    }

    Now X and Y represent ONLY two of the tokens for the fields short name that are not showing data when you click the radio button to reveal hidden field values and the X1 and Y1 represent the hidden fields that correlate to each of these fields.

    You see X and Y are fields that are not filling with data. you may have more or less fields that reveal themselves to be empty after clicking a question event. You will need a hidden field for each one where your initial sql can store the data for each field that is hidden by the question event.

    keep in mind that question event fields are not hidden fields by definition they are dynamic question that hidden until made visible. When I say hidden field here I think you know that is a definite question event type of field that is always hidden. These fields are often used for storing information to be passed along in the form or used for situations like this.
