Some of my clients entered survey data always shown to have duplicates -- basically they submitted multiple times.  I am fine if there were actually multiple records in the database.  The thing is, you see the dups in the view form results page, but in the database there is only one record, no dup. As a result, when they deleted one "dup" from the results page, both records were deleted.  I am confused if there is no duplicated the records in the database, where the dups shown in the form results come from?

In the database, I looked this table:  DynamicForms_QuestionResponse, any other can hold survey results too?

We are using dynamic forms ver. 3.40.30

    Thanks lot!

    Brian

Hi Brian - That seems very strange... I do believe that the version you are running on is several years old so you might also want to consider upgrading to the very most recent version.

    A couple quick questions:
    1. Do multiple completion events fire off for these? So if you have an email setup does the email fire off twice?
    2. Maybe you can attach a screenshot that highlights and shows what the view form results looks like?

From what you have described the data is only getting stored one time, so it sounds like a problem with how that data is displayed in the view form results rather then getting stored twice.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Thank you Chad for your reply. I am attached the screenshots here.
The dup1 shows two entries in the results page, 12/10/2012 8:43:00 PM and 12/10/2012 8:44:00 PM, but actually there is only one record in the database.  dup2a and dup2b are screenshots when I clicked on view results, and you see they are the same.

Hi Brian - I see.... very interesting. I guess it is probably doing a group by of some sort that includes the Date/Time for the specific unique entry and I notice that some entries were saved to the database 1 second after other entries and maybe that is causing it?

Quick question, under the module configuration, general settings area you have the option to select a "Summary Field" that I think shows up instead of the date field (not sure, I would need to test). Can you tell me if this changes if you use a summary field?

    Is this a large form?

    Thanks,

    Chad

Thanks Chad. I tried using a couple of different field as "Summary Field", the date field is always there. I still see two surveys entered one minute apart. Yes it is a huge form, and at the end, there are two file uploads fields that are required fields. What I got from the user is that, they submitted the first time, and it seems there is no response, so they submitted the second time.

I checked with the managers if I could let them submit only once (there is option), but they want users to be able to "save" the results along way, cause it's a long form.

But if there are actually two records in the database, I am fine, I can still safely delete the first one. Now, it shows up two, if I delete one of them, both are gone.

Since the file upload might time out and cause issues, they were optional previously, now I made them as required, but that does not solve the problem.

    Anything else I can try?

    Thanks a lot!

    Brian

Hi Chad, I think I figured it out.

What happened was, for the same survey, the responsedatetime field has two different values, for example, for some responses, the ResponseDateTime is 8:43, and others the ResponseDateTime is 8:44. On the results page, since it sees two values, it displays as two records.

So in the database, I update the survey to make sure that the ResponseDateTime is the same for the same survey, by doing this, I don't see "dups" anymore.

You are right in the previous response, there was no dup, the results page is a grouped display by responsedatetime.

    Thanks for the hint!

    Brian
