    Hi,

I am facing a strange issue in MOSS 2007 search. I don’t know whether it’s configuration stuff or a limitation of MOSS search functionality.

I uploaded some *.ppt (the *.ppt files contain mix and match of images, tables and word text) files in document library and crawled that site, it did that successfully. But after that problem arises. MOSS is able to search for few words or text in ppt for first few slides of a ppt files and in between few slides text are ignored where images or table or text inside text box is there but the rest of the slides where only text is there is indexed properly.

If I split the ppt file in to multiple files then it’s able to search properly. Is there any limitation for search penetration?? when the same slide is placed as the first slide which include Images, text box and text its getting indexed. We did lot of combination and found that irrespective of the content in the first slide in ppt is getting indexed is that true ?? and the second thing is crawling of file depends on text formatting or independent of that, then how it indexed special characters or indexes text within images??

Second thing there is some metadata associated with each type of file whether its pdf or doc or xls file. While searching the document or any file I don’t want the search result to display the metadata results (for eg. search is displaying the metadata ‘Title’ for each search results). I want this to be turned off and display the file name. Is there any work around for that??

Please guide me to proceed further.

    Thanks in advance.
    Ankit

I can help you with the second problem.

In the search results page->siteaction->EditPage->Search Core Result Web part->Edit->Modify shared Web Part.

In the results query option->Selected Columns, remove the column you dont want.

U can also modify the XSLT in the data view properties, if the property is included there.
