We have some profile fields that we don't want the users to have access to but we do want to let users in certain roles be able to view them using the user directory module.

The user directory module only allows those profile fields that are set to 'Public'.  Is there a way to bypass this so within the module we can use any of the fields irrespective of thier visibility settings?

Maybe a change to one of the stored procedures?

    TIA

Well, let's see if I can answer this question. Currently, the DUD will gather all the profiles that are set as "Visible". But my question is this. You don't want users to have access to certain profiles. So users have edit rights to the DUD page control panel to set up their search templates, etc? Is this where you don't want all the profile tokens to be listed in the display on the left side?

Because if users do not have edit rights, then you simply have two DUD template page, one viewable to users in a role that can view all the tokens and one with only partial list of tokens by the other role. I hope this helps.

Besides, all the profile tokens can be set to visible but they are not required. How are users updating their core profile? Using Dynamic Registration, or the standard DNN profile link? -- David

    David

We are creating a way for certain non admin users to view user information.  These users will not have rights to edit the module but they will be able to search and export using the normal interface.

We have set up profile fields that are for the site owners only, we don't want the normal users to see this information. These fields are set to not visible.

Most of the updating is done by a series of DynReg form but there are some modules that uses the core user management controls. To prevent the users from seeing the 'site owner' additional profile fields, they have to be set to not visible.

Some of the profile fields (the ones set not visible) are only updated by 'site owner' users. Not by the user who the profile is about.

So in the DUD instances we want to control the visibility of the profile fields by who can edit the DUD settings. Similar to the way people who can edit DynReg modules can use the non visible profile fields.

Hope this explains what we are trying to do.

HI Antony, I don't believe this can be done in the current release of DUD. The code will need to be modified to accomplish what you're looking to achieve. Perhaps this can be set as an enhancement request for the next release or if you are VB.NET saavy, you can purchase the source and modify it yourself. -- David
