    Is there a way we can require (and then validate) a response for a text field based on the response to another question?

    Yes, use question events for this. For example, create a textbox field and under advanced field option, set it to unhide when triggered by a question event. Also make it a required field with regexx validation. Then create a question event that will trigger the unhiding of this textbox based on another question's response. -- David

    Are you saying that if it stays hidden it won't be required?? That would be great . . . does it matter that this is a SQL and therefore server side validation?

    Not if it's a hidden field. A hidden field will render so if you have it required, it will render no matter what.

    A fieldtype that is set to hide until set visible by a question event will not render unless triggered by a question event. Hence, this method will work for what you need. At least I think so based on your description. -- David
