I have three combo boxes that I'm using in a form similar to Dynamic Forms Demonstration #14 edit form. After the form is submitted, all fields are saved to a DB. From the View a user can click the pencil next to a record and the edit form will open and populate the fields with the data stored in the DB. Two of these three combo boxes are working correctly; one is not. The field reverts to the first choice in the list, so it has to be reset to the correct value every time it is reopened for editing. I had set all three fields to have default values, but I removed the defaults as I thought that this might be the problem (trying to override the default value with the stored value). This has not fixed the behavior. I tried passing the value for this field as a querystring parameter with the same short name as the parameter name - still no luck. The worst part is that the other two are working, and they seem to be set up the same way as the third that isn't working!

Any ideas would be appreciated, and please let me know if I can supply any other details.

    Thanks -ToddJ

Okay, the values for that combo are pulled from a table using the SQL Dynamic Query. In my testing, I had tried a number of things to get this to work, including setting the table values (not keys) to have %20 where the spaces should go so that I could put the shortname=value in the querystring without problems with the spaces. I never changed this back, so when it tried to populate the form with the stored value it would try to match "this stored value" with "this%20stored%20value" which didn't have a match. so it would just default to the first choice in the combo. I fixed this and everything's working, except one piece. I couldn't figure out any way to have a default value for the combo AND fill in the stored value on edit. I had to remove the default values, add a sort column on the table where these values are stored, and set my "default" value to be the value with the lowest sort order. This puts my default value first in the list, but doesn't get in the way when I want to pull in the stored value.

    Todd,

Thanks for posting the follow up on this issue and your work around. We will have to review this for future updates. Sometimes its hard to know when multiple features are used which one you 'really' want... For example if you have request from querystring enabled and a default (just an example) but in your case it would be nice to be able to have a default and the edit. Glad you were able to figure out a work around though.

    Thanks!

Glad to do it; I hope that it helps someone else who might be "wading in the water"! Aside from a few kinks, I'm really happy with Dynamic Forms. My company is going to purchase the most recent version of the module, so I'm looking forward to seeing what new stuff I can play with!

Hi - Can you let me know more specifics as to what step in the tutorial you are getting stuck at or is not working? Where specifically or how specifically is the demo #14 tutorial not working for you?

    Thanks,

    Chad
