I know that this is nit-picking but my client asked so now I have to ask -

when creating an email, there's an option for "From Name" under Advanced Settings. I assume that this name will appear in the email that is sent. But I have never seen that happen. All I see in the email in the FROM field is just the email address, not the "from name".

Is it meant to work this way? I would think that I would see the name instead of the email address. Any suggestions to rectify this?

    Thanks.

    Hi Reuben,

Yes this feature should work as you described in earlier versions with some versions of DNN and this feature. I know that the last time I checked against the latest 3.3.5 I wasn't able to duplicate this. If you can setup a demo at www.betasprings.com (login as host/dnnhost) and duplicate this let me know.

    Hi

Yes, I know this is an old issue which I brought up from previously, but I'm still getting this issue, even with the latest version of OptedIn Email (4.3) and DNN (5.4.2).

The email sent to me will show the entire email address, but not the From Name. Also I did try it on BetaSprings.com and gives me the same problem.

So I guess this has been an on-going problem for a while. Any suggestions to fix this? It's driving my client crazy.

    Hi Reuben.

Let me see if we can narrow this down.  Are you trying to set the From Name in Opt In Email - Advanced Email, Module Configuration, Newsletter Settings/Template?

I actually just sent out a small email blast and was able to change the From Name but I made the change from Create New Email, Advanced Settings.

Can you please try in betasprings.com and test from both places and let us know which side is not working for you?  Thanks!

    I think you misunderstood

When I send a typical email, like reuben@asdfg.com , I should receive the email shown as "Email Administrator" as the From label.

There are two fields in Advanced Email under the Advanced Setting tabs - the first is the "Reply-To Address" and the second is "From Name:". When I send that email blast, I received the email from "reuben@asdfg.com". What I want to see is the email being sent from "Email Administrator" but it is not doing that.

I understand it's a small thing, but like I said, it annoyed some very vocal people.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm referring to.

Can you please make sure you're on Opt In Email 4.3.10?  What DNN version are you on?

Also, may I temporarily add your email address to my small test list so you can see what I see?  Just click on my name and send me a quick note with your email address.  Thanks!

    Hi Reuben,

Just updating ths thread.  So far, you received email test distributions from us that show different FROM email names.  We just need to get this working the same way on your client's site.  Next steps are to

    1) update to Opt In 4.3.10

    2) check with email provider for any setting there that might prevent the from name from displaying.

Let us know what happens.  Thanks!

    Candace
