I have a form that has only two field, one text field and one checkbox field. The checkbox field has SQL validation against it and when the checkbox fails validation the user is asked to remove the tick from the checkbox. However after removing the tick from the checkbox the backgroud value isn't changed and so the validation fails again. help!

    HI Adam,

What is your exact Dynamic Forms version from Host, Module Definitions?  Also, what DNN version are you running?

Can you please try to duplicate this over at our test site?  Just go to www.betasprings.com and log in with  host  /  dnnhost  then create your own page under Dynamic Forms parent page.  Let us know your resutls and your test page URL so we can review it for you.  Thanks!

    Candace

    Hi,

    My version is Ver:3.3.40.0 / 5.4.1.

    I have replicated the same problem on your betasprings site and the same bug occurs. A simple form with only a checkbox on it and SQL validation  of;

    DECLARE @return_value int

    SET @return_value = 1

    IF ('$(chkBox)' = 'Yes')
      BEGIN
        SET @return_value = 0
      END

    SELECT @return_value AS IsValid

If the checkbox is unticked then no validation error is prompted, however once you tick the checkbox and submit a validation error occurs, which is correct, but after you remove the tick from the checkbox the error is still promtped after submit. The value of the checkbox is obviously not reset after validation.

Just another note... the checkbox value when not selected and before being selected is NULL (''). Is this correct? It appears to be a problem when I send an email based on the value of the checkbox being unselected.

HI Adam, okay I was able to duplicate this on my localhost system as well. I had one simple checkbox like you. However, I used a stored procedure:

    usp_validate_checkbox '$(chkBox)'

    create procedure usp_validate_checkbox @chkBox nvarchar(10)
    as
    begin
    declare @return_value int
    IF (@chkBox = 'Yes')
    BEGIN
    SET @return_value = 0
    END
    else
    begin
    set @return_value = 1
    end

    SELECT @return_value AS IsValid

    end

I have redirection on submit to HOME page. If I check the box and hit submit, it will give me the SQL validation error message. If I uncheck the box, it will still give me the SQL validation error message which is incorrect. Enabling debug mode shows that the checkbox doesn't get reset to '' but stays on 'Yes'.

I will notify Chad of this. For now, I believe you can use client side javascript to reset it. Another words, create a hidden field and use client side javascript on the checkbox to set this hidden field to a value of 'Yes' if checked and 'No' if unchecked. Then use SQL validation on the hidden field instead. This should accomplish what you want to achieve. -- David
