    Hi,

When saving a newsletter as a draft, OptIn always creates another copy of the newsletter.  When I create a newsletter, it often takes a few different sessions before it's finalized and ready to send, so I end up with multiple versions of it in various stages of completion.

Is there anyway to stop this behaviour and just have the one "draft" copy.

If not, may I suggest that in the list of newsletters, a "date last modified"  is added to help distinguish which is the most recent version of the draft.

    Thanks,
    Rod

Further to this, "Update" (pencil icon) and "Edit" (magnifying glass icon) buttons next to the draft listing are not behaving correctly.

The view button does not view what the edit button edits and vice-versa.

In other words, you click on the view and it displays one "draft" version of the newsletter, and then you click on the "edit" button on the same newsletter, and you get a different version of the newsletter.

Very confusing, and I almost deleted some content that I needed.

Can you please confirm whether this is a bug?

    Thanks,
    Rod

Hi Rod - Are you sure you have unique content in the 'Non Personalized Newsletter'? I think its confusing you because the preview shows the 'Non Personalized' copy and when you go into edit a newsletter its going to fill the top Rich Text Editor with the 'Personalized Copy'.

I will have to add this to the list to replicate the double drafts, as far as I know we have not had anyone report each time saving a draft its saving two drafts.

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hi Chad,

Thanks for your response. Perhaps this was happening. Either way, the duplication is still very confusing.

Can I send you some log-in credentials to check it out personally? Would be great to get this cleared up.

    Best regards,
    Rod

Hi Rod - I reviewed this further with another client and it appears to already create a new draft (not really a copy but a new draft newsletter) each and every time you are wanting to edit the draft. Basically when you are editing the draft its more of a 'start from this draft'. So, give me some time to research this as some users might want it to work this way (always create a new draft each time you go in and edit or start from a draft) but I see how its confusing... Another option might be as soon as its saved to delete the previous draft.

I was thinking from the description it happened every time you created a draft but now I see its when going back and editing a previous one. This gives me something to work off of now and test.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Thanks for checking it out Chad.

I would be great if this feature was smoothed out a bit.  As mentioned previously, it would be good if the drafts had a date next to them, so when it comes time to delete them, I get the right one.

Part of my frustration with this was accidentally deleting the wrong one, because of the confusing view/edit functionality, and the fact that the order didn't have a date, or other "version" indication.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll come up with a solution that will keep everyone happy.

OptIn is a great module and I look forward to the evolution of it.

    Best regards,
    Rod

    Hello ,

To add to this my most recent client also found the save as draft confusing in the same way. To put it in her words: "they just keep multiplying!".

I think what is happening is people are expecting to create a "new" newsletter with "create new", but if the click on a current draft (using pencil icon) then they are expecting to be able to save it and have only that one draft still showing on the list, not that one plus the one they started with.

This client in particular is the type to want to start a newsletter but go back and add to it 4 or 5 times before sending it out. So they would end up with 4 or 5 draft copies and all would have the same name.

I showed her a work around, and that was to put the date and time infront of the subject while she was in "draft "mode, but this would require making sure to remove the date before sending out the final.

The functionality this client was expecting was for save as draft to mean "save", not "save additional copy"

I will request this functionality also.

    Thanks

    James
