    Hi, I have a form which includes working radio buttons and checkboxlists to successfully calculate totals.
    I'd like to be able to display the 'option text' results of the form on a 'continued' page and not the 'option values'. I'm using DFv3.4 so I thought that i'd be able to use '$(ShortFieldName_Text)' in the client-side event along with the javascript calculations.
    Can I set it into a hidden field and then use that in the summary page? I've tried setting '$(radioButtonHidden) = $(deliveryOpts) but Firebug tells me deliveryOpts is undefined! Or can I script an if/else statement to do this another.
    Please any ideas on the correct syntax to use for either/or would be of great help here?
    Many Thanks

    Hi Mark - Yes, sometimes getting the values of radio button fields requires some unique JavaScript but if you check out demo 20 at http://www.datasprings.com/formdemos it should help.

    Your plan of getting the radio button or combo box text and storing it into a hidden field would be a workable solution.

    One key note which could throw you off, even though getting the text or value requires some specific JavaScript, I should note that using a $(ShortFieldName) or $(ShortFieldName_FieldID) won't get parsed/replaced with the actual element ID unless that field has some client side events in it. Why? There are performance enhancements in the module to only parse fields that are used in client side events. So to get around this, if you enable debug mode and you see that your $(Field) or $(Field_FieldID) is still being rendered with the actual token and not the form element then go into that question and under advanced field settings, client side events simply put a few spaces in that field or something like 'var nothing;' and from there it should render.

    Thanks!

    Hi Chad,

    Afraid I'm not having much success with this.

    As an example, I have radio buttons with Short Name of $(TIMEShard)

    If one of the options has the 'Option Text' of 1 Hour and the 'Option Value' of 42.00, how do I ensure that the Option Text (ie '1 Hour') is displayed? (I don't want the value 42.00 to be displayed.)

    As a test within my form, I have Client side Event code that calculates any totals correctly (as derived from your Demo20 form) and I've added the following to try and 'get hold of' the Option Text, populate a hidden field with it and then (as a test) to display that 'Text' in a Text/HTML field thus:

    {
    if ($(TIMEShard) == '42.00') {
    $(TurnAroundHardTextHidden) = '1 Hour';
    }
    else
    if ($(TIMEShard) == '38.00') {
    $(TurnAroundHardTextHidden) = '4 Hour';
    }
    else
    if ($(TIMEShard) == '30.00') {
    $(TurnAroundHardTextHidden) = 'Next Day';
    }
    else
    if ($(TIMEShard) == '24.00') {
    $(TurnAroundHardTextHidden) = '3 Days';
    }
    else
    if ($(TIMEShard) == '21.00') {
    $(TurnAroundHardTextHidden) = '5 Days';
    }

    document.getElementById('radioFieldTextTest1').innerHTML = 'Your chosen Option Text

    is (should be text not a number):  ' + $(TurnAroundHardTextHidden) + '';
    }

    It's not showing anything? Am I missing something here please?
    I figured that if I get the Option Text to populate my test here I could then use the hidden field value to carry across to the Summary page by retrieving the session variable of TurnAroundHardTextHidden. Is that the right way to go about it?
    Thanks

    Hi. Well I imagine this would work if you were using a combo box instead of Radio Buttons... the difference is that radio buttons requires specific JavaScript I believe instead of just being referenced by $(ShortFieldName). If you change these to combo box's do they work?

    You might have to research and create a custom JavaScript function call to get access to radio buttons, or maybe check out how we get access to it with a default function call on Demo 20 at http://www.datasprinsg.com/formdemos. Either way, I know it requires an extra function call as those fields work differently then combo box fields.

    Thanks,

    Chad
