    All my information would not fit onto the one page. So I am using dynamic forms for the first page. I would like the submit button to pass the values collected to the non dynamic form.

    Would I still use short names to do this?

    contname.Text = $(contractor)

    Should I pass to querystring or to session variable?

    Would I use the URL/Page Redirection feature for this?

    Tim, review the querystring / session variable info on page 15 and 16 of the Dynamic Forms user guides.

    http://www.datasprings.comuserguide...rGuide.pdf

    Basically you want to:
    1. On page one set all of the fields to be passed via the querystring or session variables
    2. On page one redirect the user to page 2 during submission
    3. On page two create hidden fields and select to retrieve those values from the querystring.
    4. Make sure that the fields on page one (short field names) match up with the hidden field names (short field names should be the same).

    Chad,

    Page two is not a dynamic form module.

    It is a page I created in Visual Studio 2005.

    To get a text box filled in with the value of another field you normally use : contname.Text = Whateverfield.value

    But since I am passing from this module to a non df module

    what would the parameters be?

    Would it be contname.Text = $(contractor)

    Or would it be something else?

    Hi,

    In this case its standard ASP.NET programming to pick up any session variable or querystring variable.

    Something like textbox1.text = request.querystring("YourShortFieldName")
    OR
    textbox1.text = Session("YourShortFieldName")

    The brackets such as $(Field) are only used within Dynamic Forms and not ASP.NET

    I'm having issues with this "Pass values of this question to query string variable" business. The user guide is  pretty clear on how it should work, but things aren't turning out that way for me at all.

    The user guide states that if i choose to pass the values, the url should look like a standard querystring: http://www.datasprings.com/default....LastName=D
    oe

    However, my example mucks it up, and i end up with a URL looking like this: tabid/497/txtHomeType/Acreage/txtFirstName/bob/txtLastName/jones/Default.aspx

    Anyone have any ideas why my querystring is being set up like subdirs?

    Thanks!

    I'm having problems passing values to the QueryString as well, however my problem seems to be with the values passing.

    According to the user guide, the querystring should read in this format: http://www.datasprings.com/default....stName=Doe

    However, for some reason when I pass the values to the QueryString on my form, my url looks like this:tabid/497/txtHomeType/Acreage/txtFirstName/bob/txtLastName/jones/Default.aspx

    Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? Anyone have any ideas as to why my QueryString values are reading as subdirs in the URL?

    Thanks =)

    Ben,

    Hi. This is actually working as its supposed to and it does mean that the fields are being passed. DotNetNuke itself has a feature called 'Friendly URL Settings'. You can find this under Host, Advanced Settings, Friendly URL Settings. Friendly URLS put the querystring variables in a different format that is better read by google and other search engines for targeting specific keywords. You will notice that if you turn the feature off it will display the querystring variables as the documentation suggests. Even for the URL that this forum thread is on it would work the same if it was in the standard format.

    Friendly URL format:
    http://www.datasprings.com/Products...fault.aspx

    Not Friendly URL Format:
    http://www.datasprings.com/default....view=topic

    As far as the application/module that would then retrieve querystring variables they should still be able to retrieve the variable without any additional work.

    Thanks, Chad. I don't have time to test and confirm this right now; but I will let you know my results.

    Appreciate the response!
