Hi Chad and crew! I have a question about Opt-In email 4.3 on DNN 5.6. I have it all setup and am doing some testing and all works great except for a couple reporting items.

1.) It seems that when I opt-out by clicking the link in an email .. I am opted out and I get an email to state that and I am removed from the list .. but the Opt-out is not reported in the reports .. does not show any opt-outs. Is there a scheduler specifically for this and I haven't given it enough time perhaps? (been testing over 1 hour or so)

2.) I delibertly added a few bad email addresses to the list to test the bounce back system and such. I also included a couple non-email address as follows: joe@webmonton and ABCDEFG. In this case I would expect to see 2 distribution failures, but as it turns out I see none in the reporting .. and the joe@webmonton address seems to get flagged as a bounce, and the ABCDEFG address does not appear to send at all (is not counted in send count) and doe not show up as a failed distribution either. Am I misinterpreting how this works?

Other than that .. I wanted to say nice job on the new site, looks great, I love it!

    Thanks

    Kelly

Bumpity Bump ... is anyone else having this issue? I've worked with this module for a couple years now and I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.

    Hi Kelly,

We're in the process of gathering the final list for the next patch/release.  I'm bringing this to Chad for review.  Thanks!

    Hi Kelly,

Let me see if I can answer some of your questions...

    1. The Opt Out link might depend specifically on the Opt Out URL you are using. There are many different opt out URL's such as taking them to the site to enter their email, using an $(OptOutAll) token, etc... I will have to check on which one shows up in the reports but I know this is appearing properly on our system so it might be the specific token you are using. What $(Token) are you using for the Opt Out and ill compare this with ours.

    2. That seems strange but this also depends on the SMTP server settings. If your SMTP server returns false (meaning it fails) then this should be marked as failed. This is an actual Boolean value that is returned from the DotNetNuke Email Functions though so this could have either changed over time, or maybe its possible that your SMTP servers did try and send it out and it was a valid bounce. I have seen email servers handle emails differently. As far as when it did fail but didn't get counted, if you can duplicate this on a very small level on www.betasprings.com (login as host/dnnhost) we should be able to test and get a patch out quickly.

    Thanks,

    Chad

Hi Chad, thx ... I never considered looking at which opt out I'm using .. I think it's $(OptOutAll). I'll have a closer look and get back to you.

As for the failed distributions, I'm using the local SMTP server, and in similar setups in the past I usually see the failed distributions right away. I'll make some comprisons on different platforms and versions and see what I can find.

    Thanks.

    Kelly
