    I have a registration form that includes these fields:

    1. State
    2. City
    3. Category
    4. Organization
    The way that it is supposed to work is that only the State field is visible at first. 

    When a State selection is made, a list of Cities appears.
    When a City is selected, a list of categories appears, based on the State and City.
    When a Category is selected, a list of Organizations appears based on the State, City, and Category

    All of the fields are dropdown lists that are populated by SQL queries.

    I have City, Category and Organization set to be hidden until an event occurs.

    City is tied to making a State selection.
    Category is tied to making a City selection.
    Organization is tied to making a Category selection.

    But ... City, State and Organization all appear when the State is selected.

    Obviously I am missing something.  In my question events, each one is tied to only the next field.

    What might I be missing?

    Hi Joe,

    It sounds like your question events are set to fire for 'any field response' which is correct. However, when the fields are populated, it's possible the question event thinks that a selection has already been made and therefore displays the succeeding fields. Can you please add a " - Please select - " at the top of the list with something like this:

    Select '< - Please select - >' as QuestionOption, '0' as QuestionOptionValue
    Union All
    select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'Region' and ParentID = 221

    Let us know if that helps fix it for you.

    I had tried something similar to your suggestion, but I like yours better. I converted my form to your way of doing things.

    Unfortunately, there results were the same.

    It does appear that the other events seem to think that selects have been made in the other fields.

    How can a write a query such that the Benefit field is filled in only if a selection has been made for both State and City?

    Hi Joe,

    Yes at this time this is a current limitation within the module and there isn't a work around that I know of yet... This is because whenever you have a question event that is setup to "fire for any field response" such as this, you are telling the module to fire that question event and display the field after any postback.

    What you might do is hide the label or not display the label and then in the field above it say "State / City"? So it might appear as a single field?

    We have reviewed different ways of making this happen but we do not have a great solution yet... You will notice this also happens within our demo of dependent dropdownlists.

    I did have one client that got around this one time using a client side event.. I think they were able to hide the entire DIV or entire HTML Table Row and do a check to see if they should enable it or not. So you might try going that route. Another route I have not tried but would be worth exploring would be to "Update a default value for a field" and basically update the value of a hidden field to be something like "True". Then, make your question event based on the hidden field value and not "Always fire event". That might be worth exploring as well!
