I am looking for some guidance how to implement a drop down list that is dependent on the Region question. I would like this drop down list to display only the counties for the selected Region (State).

    Question 1

Is it best to use a list in DNN for the counties or a table?

I did create 2 test "County" Lists where the parent is the state in which the counties reside.

I did use a simple dropdown box driven by SQL with the following query.

"select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'Country'"

This does work however it appears it returns all counties rather than the set of counties in the region selected under the previous question.

The following query works in SQL however I do not believe to will work in Dynamic Forms based on the documentation provided.

    DECLARE @1 nvarchar(200)
select @1 = (select EntryID from Lists where Text = '$(Region)')
SELECT text from lists where @1 = ParentID

Question 2 - How do I get it to only display the desired results. I tried to follow the example provided in demonstration (11) however I could not get the xml file to import.

Please go easy on me. I am by no means a programmer.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.....

I now have everything figured out but the query. I think using the list is complicating things a bit for me. I am sure its somethign silly I have missed.

Can someone please tell me why this doesn't work in Dynamic forms when it dows work in SQL. I don't know any other way to write it being the data is all in one table....

select Text As QuestionOption, value as QuestionOptionValue from Lists
where ParentID = (Select EntryID from Lists where Text = $(state))

    Nevermind... I figured it out....

    This is the correct query:

select Text As QuestionOption, value as QuestionOptionValue from Lists
where ParentID = (Select EntryID from Lists where value = '$(state)')
