Is there any way to check for errors on SQL completion events?

We write to a table after the form submit, but if that sql errors out there is no way for the user or even us to know.

We tried SQL binding to have the form write directly to the table and it has the same issue.

This seems like a fairly serious issue for the forms.
To have no way to indicate to the user that their data did not save?

    Please advise.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comments... Within the very latest 4.0 release there is an option to "Log all SQL Completion Events" to the Event Log. When this setting is checked you can monitor the event log for any issues under Admin, Event Viewer.

If a SQL completion event throws an error there is also a checkbox for SQL events to offer the ability to send this notification to the Administrators email. I forget if this is by default something that happens but I believe it is something that always happens if the SQL event throws an error.

There are other methods (if you are trying to tell the user) such as SQL Validation which could check specific answers and return an error message back to the user. I guess this is really dependent on each specific form/setup though as each validation and SQL event is unique.

    Thanks,

    Chad

How would we let the user know that the SQL event failed after they hit submit - so we can let them know they have to re-enter their submission?

In worse case, if we wanted to check your tables with a scheduled stored procedure to check to see if there are are submitted forms [where the SQL event didn't work], how do we query your tables for completed form submissions?

Thank you for your comments. A couple of things:

    1. Can you replicate/duplicate when the required field validation is not firing? For example… Does this happen for a specific browser, or a specific set of circumstances? Do you have both client side validation and server side validation enabled under module configuration, validation configuration?
    2. We added new features to not only email when a SQL event fails but also to log this under Admin, Event Viewer. There is no way to notify a user when a SQL Event fails because all events fire "After" a form submission has taken place. In other words, at the time that all events fire the form submission details has already been saved to the database etc… We do offer a solution here called "SQL Validation" which can be global for an entire form, or it can be specific per field level etc… What you can do with this field is actually validate any specific settings or maybe do an "Attempt" to store into a similar table/execute a similar stored procedure and if it fails you can return "False" or "0" which will return an error message. SQL Validation fires before a form submission has actually went through

Hope these details help direct you in the right direction!

    Thanks,

    Chad

We are able to accomplish most of what we needed using question events and form events, but that leaves us with one key piece of functionality missing:

The after submit Form SQL events need the ability to check a return code so that a redirect can go to either a success page or a problem page.

Seems like a simple modification to dynamic forms, given that there are other SQL events in the module that can capture a return value.

We would be willing to pay for this functionality.
