When I add a new Combo Box, the SQl Driven Options are not saved.

The 'Test SQL' button returns valid values. The 'Update Field' command is send without any errors.

The Combo Box is still empty in the registration form.

    Hi Thomas,

    A few questions:

    1) What version of the module are you running?
    2) Can you copy and paste the SQL into the forum?

Also note: The most recent version requires you to update the field before entering options.

Let me know how it goes,
    Thyme

    Hello Thyme,

the module version used is 2.3 for DNN43plus. The module installations has been done without any errors :)

    The used SQL is:

select Text as QuestionOption, Text as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'Country'

The "Test SQL" returns the list of countries. Even the default drop down is populated and a default can be selected.

The "Update Field" command does not update the field.

    Thomas

We are experiencing the exact same problem.  Here's how to duplicate the problem.  (I am a developer myself and I know how much a step by step documented process can help reproduce the problem in a development environment.)

    1. Create new Dynamic Field
    2. Put in the Question field:  State
    3. Put in the Short Name field: State
    4. Put in the Help Text field: Choose your state from the list.
    5. In my case, I entered a sort order of  9
    6. I left the Textbox Max Length field with the default value of 50
    7. Question Type: Combo Box
    8. Click Update Field
    9. Select newly created State field from the Dynamic Question dropdown list
    10. In Question Options, select SQL Driven Options
    11.  Enter SELECT Text AS QuestionOption, Value AS QuestionOptionValue FROM Lists WHERE ListName = 'Region' into the SQL query box.
    12.  Click the Test SQL button to verify that the SQL works.  (You get the same results whether you click the Test SQL button or not)
    13.  Click Update Field
    14.  Click Exit and view a user account.  A drop-down list appears correctly but it is not populated.
    15.  Go back in to edit the State field and notice that there are no SQL Options stored.

After a bit of examination of the DynamicRegistration_Question table, I found that the UseSQL and SQLText fields were not being populated.  I updated the UseSQL field to 1 and set the SQLText field to my appropriate query and voila it worked.  There is definitely a bug in the code there.

    Hello,

Sorry for the delay in responding. I tried duplicating the issue on BetaSprings.com and was unable to - both Ken's and Thomas' SQL worked for me. We understand there is definitely a bug there and we want to fix it. Betasprings is running off the same DNN release as well, so there must be another factor that is affecting the SQL.

Are you able to duplicate in BetaSprings?

I'm glad there is a work around for the time being.

Ken - thank you for the step-by-step instructions on how you found the bug - it is extremely helpful.

    Thyme

Just for the record, I'm having the same problem. I entered my SQL statement (the state list from the lists table) exactly as it is demonstrated in the Dynamic Registration V2.2 User Guide and the list data is not being persisted. I'm running DNN 4.4 on WebHost4Life.com using your module which I bought a few hours ago so I'm assuming it's the latest version. I'll use Ken's work around for now. Thanks Ken.

Other than that, it's a great product.
