I have looked through the manuals but I can not find instructions on the new Question Events feature.

I would like to display three text fields if they answer a specific answer to a question.  It appears that I can only display Combo Box fields for a question event...is this by design?

    Rion,

Hi. We are in the process of updating Dynamic Registration manual. For now you might want to check out the most recent Dynamic Forms module documentation that has been updated and included the same similar enhancement called Question Events. This documentation includes details on each event etc..

A few things - First, the 'postback' question is the question that actually triggers the event. This question can only be of a certain type (combo box's, checkbox's, listbox, radio buttons etc...). The 2nd question is the 'affected' question. This is the question that is affected by the postback question. The 2nd question can apply to any of your dynamic fields.

    Here is any example:
    1. User answers to a radio button
    2. Fields which were previously set to be hidden should now be displayed

For the fields to only be displayed based on the postback question you also need to check the box 'Hidden until forced visible by question event' within the advanced dynamic field settings.

Here are some more demonstrations using question events with Dynamic Forms (should work similar in Dynamic Registration).

More specifically, I would check out demonstration #3.

I also just wanted to note that these demonstrations are currently a work in progress. Thyme is working on them this week and she will be posting an announcement to the forum she is done, at that time we will also ask for customers input on other advanced features they would like demonstrated.

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Hello Chad,

Thanks for the information.  My postback question is a combo box, and that works great, but then the affected question is a standard textbox and I have selected "Hide until forced visible by question event" on the affected questions setup.  Do I need to post this question in the dynamic forms forum?

So this is not working though? You have setup that the field should be visible and set it as the affected question but it doesn't work as described or demonstrated with Dynamic Forms? Just checking, if not is this something you can duplicate and we can verify within www.betasprings.com? Just login as admin/dnnadmin and see if you can replicate it within the sandbox site.

    Ok,
it seemed to work ok on your test site, however the field was not displayed to enter data into. All of the fields were available to choose for both the postback and the affected question on your site. I am on DNN 3.1 and I only have question types of combo boxes available for the postback and the affected.

I have 6 fields on my form, three combo boxes and three text fields. When I go to add a question event I see the 3 combo box questions in the drop down and nothing else. which is fine because I want my postback question to be one of those in the combo box.

Then when I try to choose the affected question I still only have the three combo box fields to choose from.

    Thanks!

Ok I have setup three instances of DNN on my own computer, one 3.0.13, one 3.2.2 and one 3.3.7. The question events do not work on any of them like they do on your beta site or on the examples you sent me. I really need them to work like they do here:

Does anyone else get the same thing I do? Can anyone else replicate this?

    Thanks,
    Rion

    Hi,
I am not sure if it is the same thing but I have a problem with the question event and the DDl question. I do not know if they are related though.
When I try to create a ddl I always get a list box, no matter what I set it up (radio, checkbox or what ever) I use sql to populate it and it shoes correctly but always in a list box.
Also when try to use a question event in the best case I get the affected question to show first and when selecting anything from the list box it disappears, whatever setup I use for it.
One more thing is that the field "Initiation Response" in the setup page is  never available.

Do you have any hints about this?

Which version of Dynamic Registration and which version of DotNetNuke are you running on? There is a minor patch release available now as 2.3.4 on Snowcovered which fixes some minor issues for DNN 4.3.x and DNN 4.4.x.
