    All,

    I am making the following test calls and $(myTitle) is always, regardless of the variations I have tried, undefined.  There must be something I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

    Javascript File

    function calculate_totals(field1,field2)
    {
    return field1 + ' ' + field2;
    }

    Client Side
    $(myTitle) = calculate_totals($(myFirstName),$(myLastName))

    Thanks,

    Mike

    On this same issue, it seems that if I have a radio button question with client side event defined to pass the value from the same radio button selection into a JS function the value is always undefined. In other words, for some reason the value from the radio button is not available at that time.

    Hi. Well I would add ?Debug=True to your querystring on the form to determine exactly what is getting rendered as far as the full javascript. There are a few tokens that you can use so I would see what is actually getting rendered. What you are probably passing is Field.Value instead of for example 10.00. When you use $(ShortFieldName) its actually rendering ThatField.Value so that you could say something like ThatField.Value = etc... I would see what is getting rendered by adding ?Debug=True (logged in as admin). This should appear at the top of the page.

    The other tokens that can be used besides just $(ShortFieldName) are:

    $(ShortFieldName_Field)
    $(ShortFieldName_FieldID)

    Keep in mind though its just javascript that is being rendered... The tokens are parsed to provide access (easy access) to those fields and field properties but in the end, its just javascript.

    Additionally for some specific implementations you might want to purchase implementation hours from us as this passes over the standard support, of course a great post but only if you need it completed sooner and didn't want to continue to research and debug the javascript code you are working on.

    Hi Chad,

    To where should I add ?Debug=True?  Is it to in the address bar on the browser?  I am logged on as admin and don't see it anywhere.

     The JS script I am working on works fine if I pass the value from, for example, a text field.  It does not work, however, if I am trying to pass the value from a radio button.  I assume it should be possible to pass the value from the radio button, correct?

    Even if, in the client event for the radio button question, I simply put $(myTitle) = $(myMembership),. when I click on the radio button for the membership question I get "undefined" in the Title field.  It would seem that no value whatsoever is coming out of the radio button.

    Hi. Well I know we implemented something similar for the Dynamic Forms w/ Checkboxlist demonstration. I am not sure specifically on what’s needed for the radio button, I think we also added a page recently that referenced radio buttons on beta springs

    I think we had to add some additional JavaScript functions to the JavaScript file to retrieve the value so you might have to check that out.  Each field type can render differently for JavaScript references so we included some for Check Box Lists in the demonstrations we created but not for radio buttons. I believe the beta springs test page references a function called "fucRadio" so you should check this out and see if you can use it to do what you need.

    Yes, as far as the JavaScript debugging is concerned, you should add ?Debug=True or if there are already parameters &Debug=True and be signed in as host/admin account. You will notice that doing that on the test page above spits out some additional information on just what is being rendered/passed (at the top of the page).

    betasprings.com appears to be inaccessible right now.  Won't load for me at all.

    The betasprings function was precisely what was needed to make this work.  Thanks, Chad!

    Great... If you have a 'broader' solution or implementation using radio buttons for client side events please don't hesitate to post a tutorial or screenshots on your implementation. I am sure more users will come up with similar needs.

    I will create this tutorial once I get the rest of the form running. Will have additional lessons learned.
