How to convert text to integers for adding purpose in V2.7?

    Hi,

    I have two text fields I want to add to come up with a Total.

    Based on a drop down list selection, I moved a value to each of these text fields. Though I moved a numeric value (12.55) it is actually treated and displayed as a string of characters.

    I have $(amount1) and $(amount2) each showing 12.00.

    I wanted to show the sum of these two fields on another field, called Total. I added a client side script: $(Total) = $(amount1) + $(amount2).

    The result shows like this: 12.0012.00 rather than 24.00.

    So it is actually "concatenating" the two text strings "12.00" and "12.00".

    Please let me know how to get the desired result, 24.00 instead of "12.0012.00"?

    BTW, is there a way to create a form field and designate that as "numeric" (integer or float), instead of regular Text?
