Empty field value causes list to not display

    Hi;

    I am testing as you can see. I configured the List Template and first I couldn't see any records. After a while I figured out the problem. Everytime I include a field to be displayed that could be empty for any of the results returned, nothing is displayed at all.

    The odd thing is when I export the search results to Excel I get all the rows that should have been returned. I checked the SQL that gets executed and I believe all rows are returned. It it just that they don't get displayed.

    One test I did was to include Region. For the example profiles that I set up I specified a Region, but not for the Admin user. When searching for all users nothing was displayed. When I searched for as specific user (not admin user) the record got displayed.

    Is this a bug or is there a setting somewhere that I need to check?

    Hi Thomas,

    Can you please try to duplicate this over at our test site, www.betasprings.com (use host / dnnhost to log in)?  Let us know what happens and what your page name is.  Please use User Directory as the parent page.  You can also set up your own simple Registration page to control the fields, if you like.  Thanks!

    Hi all... I can explain what happened here...

    First, Dynamic User Directory 3.0 is actually in the process of just now being released (trial put up on Monday and we plan to post the new release by the end of the week). We have found a few minor issues that we are glad we caught before the release and this is one of them.

    Basically... The short version is that we fixed this issue and will be updating the trial version right away (today) so you might want to re-download the trial version, you will know you have installed the correct file if you go to Host, Module Definitions, and it shows you are running on 02.50.20 or higher.

    The long version goes like this... We recently added enhancements for the item template to allow the module to decode HTML before it rendered to the page, this was necessary for field types such as Biography and really any other field type that might include HTML / Rich Text Editor etc... When we added this the module was throwing an error because sometimes it was passing a null value to the function.

    Ok, great thanks Chad for the reply.

    Anyway I was able to reproduce the bug in the beta side as well. I have created a page under User Directory and called it Thomas Empty Field Test.

    When you call up the page you will see that there is only 1 record per page. When you edit the list template and remove the field [Gender] you will see 5 entries. I assume that the value of Gender is empty for some of the records, the weird thing is that there is no value shown for Gender in the one record displayed.

    They way I did it was, that I checked on the Dynamic Registration page what field was empty and found Gender. It also was not linked to the DNN Property fields. I then created the property for DNN and linked the field.

     

    Will download the new version later today and see if it has been resolved. I appreciated the speedy responses.
