When I load data using the initial SQL bind, some questions with results do not display - e.g. in one case my options for a question depend on the answer to a prior question (using sql defined options).

Is there any way to get these to display if the initial SQL bind loads data into them?

Just to clarify - I am displaying the options using a question event. The options displayed are based on sql query. So I guess my question is can I trigger the question event on initial page load?

Question events can be triggered on page load if the intiation question is a "hidden field" type. -- David

Okay - I can get the question to display on initial bind using question event referencing hidden field. But I can't get the options for the question to display. These options are pulled using sql statement - which does not fire on initial bind!?

Hi, can you export your form to www.betasprings.com (username: host, password: dnnhost) and send us the URL/TabID so I can take a look at the setup? -- David

    Hi David

The form is running on my local dev machine and links to custom tables plus Indoo Grid.

I think I've found the problem, though:

My question 'Options' is a checkbox group with options derived using SELECT * WHERE ProductId = $(ProductId). This works correctly when a value is manually inserted into ProductId.

When I load data into the form (i.e. form is in "Edit" mode) all the form questions are correctly populated - including ProductId. However, SELECT * WHERE ProductId = $(ProductId) query returns a null. If I change this to SELECT * WHERE ProductId = 1 it displays the correct options for ProductId 1. It also works if I pass the ProductId as a query string variable.

So my challenge is: how do I set the question sql options to different sql statements depending on the mode of the form?

    David

Hi, where is $(ProductID) getting it's value from? What field type is it?
Also, I believe the question event SQL default value is only able to return a single value and not an entire rowset. -- David

$(ProductId) is a radio button. It gets its value from an initial sql bind. It can also be selected/changed by the form user.

$(Options) is a check box group. Its QuestionOptions and QuestionOptionValues are derived using SQL default script using $(ProductId) as a condition. This successfully returns a list of available options provided $(ProductId) is not null - e.g. if I hardcode it.

So my problem is one of timing. Initial sql bind populates a value in $(ProductId). Question SQL default loads available options based on value of $(ProductId). But $(ProductId) is null when the Question SQL runs - hence no options are displayed on initial form load.

Is it possible to force the initial data bind to run before the question defaul sql?

I don't know if this is possible since you have SQL binding on the radio button which works. But the question event is on the checkboxgroup which would mean you need to pick and choose something from the radio button for it to trigger.

Can you try to "Hide until triggered by question event" for the checkbox group and then create a question event to unhide the checkbox group and see if it will work on page load? -- David

I'm looking at a similar situation...

No - in the end we did a custom development using Telerik web controls.
