I have a data grid on my form. My problem is that it only saves every other row. you enter the information on the first row and then click the save button and the grid shows the information entered, then you enter the information to add a new row and when I click the save icon the page refreshes but the information of the new row does not show. Then I enter a new row and save and the information is there.

    Pleasehelp.

HI, what version of DNN and Dynamic Forms are you running? Can you export your form to www.betasprings.com (username: host, password: dnnhost) and see if you can duplicate it there as well? Also state the URL/TABID of the form location on betasprings. Thanks. -- David

    David,

I am using DNN 05.04.01 and DF 3.10.1

I exported the form to betasprings.com and the behavior is the same. The form is at the following URL.

    http://www.betasprings.com/Dynamic-...fault.aspx

Please let me know if you need more information.

HI, okay I see what the problem is. This has been a bug with the Datagrid field ever since it came out back in DF 3.0 or so. The problem is that you cannot display Label and Field in same column under Question Look / Feel. Doing so will not save succeeding entries. I unchecked it and it's working fine now. However, now you will have to change the other fields the same way for the look of the form to line up. -- David

    David,

Unchecking the display in the same column did the trick. Now i get a ROW CU:3 on top of the site everytime i check the save button. is there any reson for that?. Also the width of the text fields change everytime I click the save button.

HI, I don't see the ROW CU:3 anywhere on the betasprings test page. I don't see the width of the textbox fields in the datagrid changing there either. -- David

     David,

It is only showing on the actual site, I wonder if it has to do with the skin.

    Hi,

I'm using version 03.04.41 on a DNN 495 portal. And I have the same issue. Based on your recommendations, I have the data grid working now. However, the layout is not quite where need it. I have the field label on the left and the grid on the far right. THe page would look better if I could get the grid to go under the label. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get this layout to work? Is there a patch in progress to fix this issue?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

Hi, please refer to this thread with known issues in Dynamic Forms.

    http://www.datasprings.com/products.../aft/10755

    * There is a known bug with the Data Grid field type if you also enable the feature to display the label and the field in the same column (instead of left to right). If you have problems with the data grid field please disable the feature to display the label and the field in the same column. Our development team is reviewing this issue.

We have not yet been able to identify why this is specifically happening, very confusing... but its related to a conflict between those features.

    Thanks!

This has been a bug since June 2009, any idea when it will be resolved.  From a form formatting perspective adding the data grid to the same column as the label is needed.  The label field is the one that can colspan other fields and if the grid cannot be added then your formatting becomes very difficult and in some cases impossible when using a multi-column form design.

Hi Victor - I know we have exchanged several emails on this topic outside of the forum but I just wanted to post a follow up here as well. Basically the issue does have the work around but we have spent MANY hours a few times trying to review the problems and it appears to be something related to some complex ASP.NET Viewstate issues with how form fields are rendered on the page and a problem with code finding that question... I can only say this because literally updating this single line of code which adds the question to another column on the table can generate the issue... uncommenting/changing that code which uses two columns works completely fine. We have tried some very basic routines with only a single data grid field but every direction we have taken ends up running into this problem. You might notice that many of the limitations and bugs from that original post have had fixes throughout the release cycle but this is one that we simply do not have a fix for yet (but not for lack of trying ). We also have many customers who do use the Data Grid field type without the label and field being in the same column so removing the field type for future versions is simply not a realistic option either... I do admit that this greatly decreases the ability to style this field.

    Thanks,

    Chad

    Thanks,

    Hi Chad,

I have emailed you about this yesterday, but felt it may be easier to follow up (and have input from others as well) by using the forum.

I am new to this module but found it very easy and quick to implement a fairly complex form.  This form uses three datagrids, and this feature was the main reason why I chose this module.

When I found this forum posting I tested my form and indeed it suffered from the problem described.  I had labels in the same cell and only every other line would get saved.

However, I have tested by moving the labels back into their own cell/column and removing labels altogether and I can't get the datagrid to work!  All three show the same characteristics:
    - first record saves fine
    - second record does not save, and I did note that trying to save the record seems to initiate a post-back on the form which in turn validates all the other fields, which may have not yet been completed.  This will be confusing for the user.
    - third record saves fine, no post-back is visible.
...and so on for every alternating record.

If it would work with the fields in a separate column I can live with that, but it's not.  Any idea why?

I'm using Dynamic Forms 4.0 trial in DNN 5.5.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Let me ask a few questions:

    1. We just posted a Dynamic Forms 4.0.10 patch so if you haven't done so yet, please fill out the form again and install the 4.0.10 trial version.

    2. So can you confirm that the setting to display field and label in the same column is now DISABLED (not checked)?

    3. Also, this field type does not work with AJAX so please go to Module Configuration, and disable AJAX from Advanced Coding

    Thanks!

Awesome Candace, thank-you. The second AJAX option was turned on. I shut it off and it's working perfectly now.

Update to this 'fix', Candace. Although disabling AJAX on form question events and form submissions has fixed the datagrid saving issue, disabling this option has caused issues with my question events. Weird stuff - ie. a question event that hides fields based on a selected value in a list works fine when logged in as admin, but not as an end user. I receive an error: Erro: is currently unavailable. In testing, I found if I remove one particular field that is being hidden it works??? Other question events aren't working now either.

I realize this isn't related directly to the Datagrid field, but it is a problem caused by the 'fix' involved for this issue.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

    Hi Matt,

In the same area where you disabled AJAX, there's a dropdown with options. Can you please try setting it to either 'Question Events only' or the 'Form Processing' one? Thanks!

I did try that and the question events then work fine, but the datagrid doesn't.

Much appreciated if someone could offer a solution to this issue soon. We've demoed our form to our sales team already (with AJAX enabled on question events only and we only demoed one entry per datagrid) with a promise that we would have them setup sometime midweek.

I would think that this problem should be easily replicated, but if not I'm open to importing the form I have into a test environment (Betasprings?) for you to refer to.
    Thank-you,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Thanks for your post... Yes, unfortunately this is still currently a limitation with Dynamic Forms and is on the limitations list until we can find a fix. We have researched this many times (trust me, if it was an easy resolution we would have this fixed right away!) but we have not yet been able to identify a single area of code that should cause a conflict in any of the areas related to this (both the label/field in the same column and also the AJAX). It appears through .NET Viewstate that its getting lost and cannot find the control the same way when either of those two settings are enabled. So its really not an issue of "Duplicating" but rather a bug that has been on the list for a while (and we do try and take care of these limitations) but unfortunately we have not been able to find the culprit yet.

You can read more about all of the other known issues (including which items we have been able to resolve here).
    https://www.datasprings.com/dnn-modules/dynamic-forms/dynamic-forms-3-0-known-issues/

We do offer Premium Support if you need to help escalate the issue into go to meetings and/or more time from our senior staff, however at this time this is still listed as a known issue with the only work arounds being the label/column and Disabling AJAX.

    Thanks for your understanding.

    Thanks for the reply, Chad.

I've moved the labels for the Datagrid fields into their own cell - I don't have a problem with that.
However, disabling AJAX on the entire form (including Question Events) is a problem as Question Events then don't work properly as such - however, I have found that with AJAX disabled, Question Events do work without issue if I'm logged in as admin to the form. As an end user, I get Error: Form is currently unavailable.

If I can get the form working with AJAX disabled I don't have any issues. Any idea why it wouldn't work without admin privileges?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

I would probably try and simplify the question event not working down to a specific feature, field, or type of question event. This actually sounds more like a JavaScript issue to me and this isn't something that has been reported before. So, I would probably assume its related to some JavaScript files that might be returned in edit mode but not view mode maybe? I would maybe create a quick question on a form and see if this works when AJAX is disabled (its disabled by default), then if it doesn't we can revisit it so that we know its a pretty simple form with just that one question event? Do you have many (or any) client side events / JavaScript?

    Thanks,

    Chad
