The performance of this module while creating forms is very bad for me. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to make form building a faster process? Just opening the page to edit/create form fields takes 10 to 20 seconds sometimes.
I'm using version 2.7.
Thanks. |

Hi. Yes this is pretty slow... Can you let us know a few details... 1. Where are you hosting. Is this a shared hosting environment or dedicated server? Please let us know as much info about your hosting plan. 2. Do you have a lot of form fields setup? Or completion events? Or does this happen with a form that has almost none? 3. Do you have the same performance somewhere like BetaSprings (login as host with a password of dnnhost). This might help for us to determine if its a client side or server side issue. 4. What browser are you using? FireFox or IE and what version? Thanks! -Chad |

I know I am responding to an old post. However, I just experienced this same issue, VERY SLOW performance. As I was about to pull my last strand of hair out and go insane trying to create a survey for several hours, I switched from IE7 to Firefox3 and it is going lightning speed now!
Don't even waste your time with IE when working with Dynamic Forms.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I have the same issue, it takes forever to make simple steps on IE7. I actually started with Firefox, but it interferes with various other scripts (firebug, seoquake) although they are disabled. Any suggestion? I cannot uninstall the plugins just to setup DF. Thanks, Franco P.S. I am running DF 2.7 on DNN 4.9.3 |

Hi, can you try IE version 8 on a test system and see if it will enhance speed? -- David |

It does; still slow, but less painful. Thanks, Franco |

Hi Franco,
I had a similar situation with another client and we saw major improvement when we adjusted Performance settings under Host, Host Settings. Here's what we used:
Performance Setting: Heavy Caching
Authenticated Cacheability: ServerandNoCache
Compression Setting: GZip Compression
Hope that helps!

Add me to the list of users with slow performance. It seems that as the form gets bigger, it takes longer. I have a form with no question events, and one completion event. and roughly 40-50 fields (text, combos, html, and chkbxs). It now takes 23 + seconds to add a simple field. This is on a fast Dell XPS machine, and fast broadband. I have tried in IE8, Firefox, and Opera .. neither seems particularly better than the other.
I spend most of my time waiting for processing .. perhaps 80%.
If I recall back a few months ago, it seemed to me that things got extra slow when we switched to XHTML 1 transitional Doctype .. perhaps it's my imagination.

This might be a helpful tip. If you are saving field values from the field edit screen, saving is much faster if you click "Update Field" rather than the "Update and Exit" option. In my experience, the painful waiting part occurs most when returning (or exiting) to the regular page view in edit mode.
If you have another browser going, you can access the page without being logged in and refresh to see your changes. It is not slow for a regular user.
I tried Candace's suggestion and it does speed things up in some cases for me.

HI, another way to speed page load while in Edit Mode is to go into Module configuration / general settings and DISABLE "Disable form Quick Edit:" . -- David |

Hi. I have a quick suggestion for future releases: It seems that if you are setting up a question event, all administration sections (manage questions, module configuration, form events & question events) are actually loaded as well but just hidden by divs. If I were creating a simple question what is the point to load and hide the events administrative section? so the suggestion is load sections by request. Simple as that. |

Amazing slow. at Editing mode, I tried to adjust the Age Range combo box items. It took more than 30 seconds to select an item and move down. It took me more than 30 minutes to get the Age RAnge combo box right. Is there any way to improve the performance? Host: CrystalTech DNN:5.2 DF:3.1 Test Client: Firefox 3.5, IE8 |

Hi Richie, thanks for your feedback. Are you referring to our 'Date' field and configuring it or are you referring to a dropdownlist of ages and so forth where you are manually entering items? There have been some performance enhancements since 3.1 but also the upcoming 3.4 release (currently in beta and on BetaSprings.com if you want to check it out) is MUCH faster when adding and updating any question options or question option values. This is because we added some pretty fast JavaScript to handle pulling up the question option/question option value instead of having a postback. There have been many AJAX and jQuery enhancements in the 3.3 release though so you might make sure you are on the latest version, especially since I am not sure DNN 5.2 was avaliable or around when 3.1 was released. Thanks, Chad |

Refer to dropdownlist. Example: In edit mode, when I try to change items name. Step 1> Select Age Range (combo box) - 10 secs Step 2> Click on radio button "Enter options" - 47 secs Step 3> enter item name "10" and click on "+" add item - 3 secs Step 4> click on the item "10" - 88 secs Step 5> move the item "10" up - 97 secs (it didn't move up) Step 6> move the itme "10" up - 5 secs Step 7> move the itme "10" up - 2 secs Step 8> move the itme "10" up - 35 secs (it didn't move up) Step 9> move the itme "10" up - 4 secs Step 10> move the itme "10" up - 74 secs Step 11> Update Settings - 15 secs As you can see, it takes lots of time in processing. Actually, after double checking, the moudle version is 3.3. is there any way to speed the process up? |

Hi. That seems much slower then I have had reported in the past but for now the only way I would know how to do this would be to go to Host/Lists and setup your lists there, then reference them via SQL Options instead of referencing them by manually entering them. Now - Starting in 3.4 this is all handled via client side code (at least to select each item). There is still a performance postback when sorting but this will at least help when clicking each item. You can fully test the beta on www.betasprings.com. We also increased the size the the options listbox so that its much wider and easier to work with. We will continue to add enhancements for sorting later. -Chad |

Hi Chad, After added the list in Host/Lists. My list name is 'danceLevel'. In DF, select SQL Driven Options, put the following query select Text as QuestionOption, Value as QuestionOptionValue from Lists where ListName= 'danceLevel' It didn't work for me. It took long time to process after I click on TEST SQL. After 74 seconds, it release the page with no change in the option box. any suggestion? |

Hello Richie,
The query looks correct, do you have an object qualifier on your database?
I would try:
select Text as QuestionOption, Value as QuestionOptionValue from {objectQualifier}Lists where ListName= 'danceLevel'
If this doesn't work can you please copy/paste your SQL into Host -> SQL and check the box "Run As Script" and then copy/paste the error your receiving into this forum so I can get an idea of what's happening.
Thanks,
Ryan |

Hello Richie,
I just received your email with the credentials, I will log in and see if everything is working correctly. Can you give me some pointers of what makes you think it may not be working right? This will cut down a bunch of unnecessary testing.
Thanks,
Ryan |
