Hi.
I have two things I need help resolving:
1. I sent out a test newsletter email to a certain user role on my site and I know the emails were opened, but when I check the report of that email, none of that information is there - it only says 'Unread Count = x,' where x is the amount of emails I sent out. Do I need to configure/enable something to have the reports track the data correctly? Also, when I start sending emails with hyperlinks in the body of the text, can I track the clicks on those?
2. For these same newsletter emails, I would like them to look like they came from one email, ex. john@blahblah.com, but when a recipient needs to respond to it, they actually respond to my email address. I thought this would be resolved by having my email address in the 'reply-to address' box and john@blahblah.com in the 'From name' box, but it doesn't look like that works. Instead the email came from my address, not 'john@...'. I tried entering 'john@...' in the 'from email address' and 'from name' in the email settings of the configuration section, but that didn't work either. What am I doing wrong?
Any and all assistance with these issues would be much appreciated.
Thanks. |

Hi Ian,
Let's start with your exact Opt IN Email version from Host, Module Definitions? Also, what DNN version are you running?
1. You will need to enable tracking in order to see this working. From the control panel, what do you have in the tracking section?
2. In Module Configuration, Newsletter Settings/Template, what do you have for the default From Email address and From Name?
Does this show up correctly when you send out a newsletter without changing the Reply To Address and From Name?
Keeping the settings the same, send out a newsletter with the reply to address changed. What happens? If you change the From Name to a something like John's Email (instead of the actual email address), what happens?
Thanks!
Candace

Thank for the prompt response, Candace. I chose a 'tracking bug' for the email, and though that seems to come up in the email (as a broken image), the report for the email doesn't seem to have changed (still shows unread count even though I've opened the test email). As for the emails, when I don't have an email listed in the 'reply-to address' for the actual newsletter email, it defaults to being sent from the email address i have in the newsletter settings. When I have an email in the 'reply-to address' in the newsletter email, it sends it from that. Never though does it show the 'From name'. |

Let me check with the dev team if the 'reply to' address is supposed to work this way.
What is your exact module version? I also want to check against bug fixes on tracking. Thanks!

Thanks for checking, Ian. One more thing.
Do you have the Collection 3.0? If you do, can you please access the Opt In Email 4.3.20from your Snowcovered account in MyDownloads and see if the problem clears?
If you purchased the the module individually, can you please see if you can duplicate these 2 issues over at our test site? Please go to www.betasprings.com and log in with host // dnnhost then give us your results and the URL to your test page so we can review. Thanks!

Hi Ian.... Lets try and work on one item at a time. If the image isn't showing up for the tracking image then the tracking feature isn't working right. Is this a child portal or parent portal. Can you click 'View Source' within Outlook or your email program and see/verify the URL that is being used for the image tracking? Once we have email tracking we can review how the reply to/from name should work. This feature could also be slightly different based on your DNN version. Thanks, Chad |

Our webmaster took the necessary steps provided to us to upgrade to the newer version of the optin email module however our site does not reflect the change. It still says we are using the 4.2 version. We would like to have this available for tomorrow morning at the earliest. If there isn't a quick fix for this, we may need a quote on premium support. Thanks. |

Ian,
I responded to you via email but let me post my response here, too:
I just posted a new patch today and the versioning will be corrected when you install the Opt In Email 4.3.60. Please download this from your Snowcovered account again. Thanks!
Thanks,
Candace |

Two follow up questions: We sent out a newsletter to about 2900 recipients. The reporting says there were no bouncebacks, but the email address we sent from received about 500 bouncebacks or 'undeliverables' - Is the module just not connecting to our mailbox system? Also, and more importantly, is there a way to create an aggregate view of the links that were tracked and clicked. Instead of each instance a link was clicked and the information surrounding it, is there a place to find: link 1 (40 clicks - bob, joe, etc.), link 2 (100 clicks - jan, kate, etc.)? If not, what is the best way to organize this information? Thanks. |

Hi Ian - The bounceback scheduler has its own scheduler and settings. Are these setup and defined within the module configuration area? You might check the 'History' for the bounceback scheduler and review it, does it show you any details? If you are on 4.3 the history area is directly build within the module and you don't have to go to host/schedule. Unfortunately there is not a direct way to direct way to display reports for aggregate views by link click etc... I do agree that this would be a great feature, even if there was just a summary total at the bottom of the report. Thanks for the suggestion. Thanks, Chad |
