    Hi

For some reason, my email newsletter aren't going out anymore. It used to be working, but now it is not. It is related to the number of email addresses (I think) in the distribution. I have a newsletter with a distribution list of 900. Now when I send it, the schedule log gives me this error from  Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail.SendNewsletters,Dataspring.DNN.Modules.OptInAdvanceEmail

Any ideas why this is? We tried sending it to a smaller test distribution list of 6 email addresses and it worked. But it won't work with 900 email address. I asked the hosting company about this and they claimed that it is not them.

    Hello Reuben,

I believe Candace is asking in general if you have upgraded to DNN version 5.6. She's saying "recently" since this version of DNN was released not too long ago.

So I take it, that you're running on DNN 5.6. Correct me if I'm wrong??

The reason she's asking is because there has been reported email issues between some of our modules that use the DNN email routines with DNN version 5.6.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

Yes, we have upgraded the client's website to DNN 5.6.1. We definitely need to resolve this issue fast because it is impacting a lot of people using the website. Thanks!

I have same trouble, but it doesn't matter how many messages I send: they'll never got sent. I've just upgraded to DNN 5.6.1 (Opt In is 4.30.70)

    Any hint?

    Reuben and Francisco,

Sorry for the troubles. We have identified a problem with DNN 5.6 related to Dynamic Registration and Dynamic Forms which may also be affecting Opt In Email.

Can you please review this forum thread and follow Chad's post on 1/26/11 at 9:11 a.m.?

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks!

I've checked the referred thread but I've found out nothing. I have three DNN 5.6.1 portals, with three different versions of Opt In installed: the ones with 4.30.60 and 4.30.70 don't send newsletters, no matter which email validatios uses (i've tested both). The one with 4.30.20 do (and it has the new regex email validation.
In one of them I also have DR but it doesn't work correctly.

I'm still having this problem. I did make the change to the email validation as per your suggestion but it still does not work.

Doing the validation did, however, remind me of one issue we had last year in July. The problem I had then was that when I use SEND NOW, the email sent doesn't show the From name but just the email address; but SEND NOW sends the email shows the From name and the email address (ie "My Name ")

Well, I tried doing this again and guess what? If I use SEND NOW the emails get sent. If I use SCHEDULE NOW, the emails doesn't get sent. So that's where the problem is. So someone please either
    1. Fix SEND NOW so that it shows the From name and address (eg "My Name "). This is my preferred option. OR
    2. Fix SCHEDULE NOW so that it runs.

Let me know how to get around this because, as I said, my client is going crazy since they send out email blast weekly.

Yup, I confirmed it. If you use SCHEDULE IMMEDIATELY, and leave the ADVANCE SETTINGS / FROM NAME  blank, it works. Somehow when you put in a From Name, the FROM email address becomes malformed and stops the email from going out.

Any ideas on how to get around this? My client really wants the From Name to be included in the email. This can't be that hard to fix, right? I mean, we have been going round and round on this since July.

I'm just wondering if there is any progress to this problem. The problem has been identified as described above. There is a malformed email address from the TO address when someone keys in a FROM NAME under ADVANCED SETTINGS. The appropriate portion of the schedule history is shown below. As you can see, the From email address is just saying : Testing Administrator when it should be Testing Administrator

    When can this be fixed?

    ========

    From Email Address: Testing Administrator

Failed to send mail: This is typically related to your SMTP settings but see Log Viewer for more details.

Sending To (0 of 2 - Maximum of 1200 can be distributed with this distribution): mailer@buzzcube.com

    From Email Address: Testing Administrator

Failed to send mail: This is typically related to your SMTP settings but see Log Viewer for more details.

Reuben - Yes, we have researched this and we are having these problems throughout all of our modules with the latest 5.6.1 release of DotNetNuke. Until DNN releases a patch and doesn't use the regular expression check they are using (which we have been told they plan to do) there is little we can do about using the from name. The reason is that the newer regular expression check that they added into 5.6.1 (especially 5.6.1 new installations) doesn't allow for the from name to be included as a valid email. So, you have a few options here:

    1. You can downgrade to an earlier version of DNN
    2. You can await a patch from DNN for when they can update this
    3. You can not use the from name in the email address
    4. Best Solution: You can use the work around identified here, basically setting the regular expression BACK to the previous version that DNN was using.

    URLS: https://www.datasprings.com/products/product-forums/aft/23378
    Suggested fix: https://www.datasprings.com/products/product-forums/aft/23378

At this time we are not planning on issuing our own 'patch' as our module always uses the core DNN email functions and the change was made to the DNN Core regarding a regular expression check to validate the email.

    Thanks,

    Chad

I'm trying to blank out the from name in my email completion event, but it ignores any change I make to this field - ie after I click update event, it just reverts to the previousd valye. When I change the actual from email address - that works.

    Please advise urgently!

    TIA Steve

    Hi Chad

I changed the validation as described in #4 and it STILL doesn't work. In other words, the only way the email opt-in works for me is not to leave the FROM name blank, which annoys my client tremendously.

Also, we are running into another issue with the opt-in email - when we send an email, even if it is successful, the tracking report says that all emails FAILED DISTRIBUTION. So now it totally confuses us. Did the email got sent or not? Why didn't it get sent? The only way to check is to ask the recipient whether they received it. Any ideas what happened here? Is it related to the problem above?

And as an FYI, when I click on ADD REPLY, it doesn't work. I have to use Quick Reply for the topic to appear.

    Hi

I want to keep this problem in the forefront mainly because my client is keeping it in my forefront by hounding me about it. It got to a point where they stopped using the module and are sending regular emails (1000+ subscribers) because of this. Unfortunately, their subscriber lists get update frequently so downloading the list and sending it out is PITA.

So the problem: when there's a FROM name it fails, ie the emails won't send out. I have tried changing the validating email string as suggested but it did not work either.

Any other workarounds that I should try? Did changing the string work for other people? it didn't work for us.

    Hi Reuben,
maybe you can try DNN 5.6.2: I had the same problem.
Only after Upgrading the Emails were sent.
But be careful: This is a alpha realease: I had problems with my menu after the upgrade and had to rollback.
